While the people are demanding that #RajapaksasGoHome, the family is trying to pull one major scam in close partnership with crony businessmen of the likes of Sumal Perera of Access Group. #GotaGoGama#අරගලයටජය#GotaGoHome#SLnews
The consortium, calling itself the Lanka Infrastructure Development Consortium (LIDC) comprises of Access Engineering, Maga Engineering, ICC, KDAW and NEM Construction.
This group along with Johnston Fernando and the Rajapaksas are attempting to fast-track a massive deal even as the people are calling on them to go home for all their past robberies causing the current economic crisis.
But despite all these protests and crushing debts, they are going ahead trying to approve a budget as much as a whopping 271 BILLION rupees higher than the cheaper bidders. Where is this money going to in such a hurry? We all know the answer!
Namini Wijedasa, Sri Lanka’s most senior investigative journalist notes in the Sunday Times that ‘The Highways Ministry is rushing to award the project, it is a non-essential capital expenditure, to LIDC at a price higher by US$ 822mn (Rs 271bn)’ than the second placed bidder
Metallurgical Corporation of China Ltd that bid at US$ 1.05 bn. Further ‘A Cabinet Appointed Negotiating Committee (CANC) continues to evaluate the LIDC’s offer of US$ 1.87bn (Rs 617bn)
while the MCC claims its bid was US$ 1.05bn (Rs 330bn). The value of the estimates is growing in leaps and bounds as the rupee depreciates each day.’
Not only is this not the need of the hour, but it may also be one of the most questionable deals ever to take place, and it is happening RIGHT NOW, even as people take their power back. Let’s unite in making our opposition known.
Let the crony businessmen know that they cannot continue to make money alongside our politicians and escape scrutiny! The people are watching!
