Gajendra Mokhsa - A Story to learn from the BHAGWAD PURAANA.
Bhagwad Puraana, tells about a beautiful Mountain called TRIKUTA. It had three peaks of Iron, Silver and Gold. It was massive at base and majestic at height.

On the foothills of TRIKUTA, lived a herd of Elephants under the strong leadership of Elephant King GAJENDRA.
He ruled the hills for many decades. He was so strong that when he walked he would sway his Trunk to destroy everything that came his way.

He enjoyed his strength so much that he was oblivious to the terror he struck in the hearts of other animals.
One day, Gajendra was Stomping through the forest. It was a Hot day and he got thirsty. His eyes looked around and there he found a beautiful Lake.

Its cool shimmering light water, lit by beams of sunlight, was irresistible.

Gajendra Drank and till he could not drink anymore.
He was so enchanted with the Lake. He began to play. He filled his trunk with Water and sprayed it in air. He showered himself thoroughly. He trumpeted with joy and hoped everyone in the forest could hear how happy he was.

Wheeling and Splashing, Gajendra was a Sight to Behold.
MAKARA was watching.

He was a huge, wild and badly-tempered Crocodile ruling that Lake. He was attentive to trespassers and whenever a trespasser entered too deep in his Lake, he would torture them, bad.
GAJENDRA was too busy playing, he didnt notice the silent movement of MAKARA.

Without creating a ripple, MAKARA moved towards GAJENDRA.

With one flash attack, MAKARA had one of GAJENDRAs feet in his Jaws.
Aah, the Pain. GAJENDRA cried.

Anger set in. GAJENDRA, the most powerful - was under a Grip. He stomped hard. He moved aggressively. He flashed water. He tried everything. MAKARA Grip was too tight. He wont let go of his prey.
GAJENDRA struggled to let himself free. MAKARA didnt budge. Bhagwata Puraana says, this struggle went on for thousands of years.

Much later in the struggle, GAJENDRA realised. This is it. There is going back from the Grip.

His life ends in the jaws of this Crocodile.
GAJENDRA, now remembers only one. Bhagwaan Vishnu.

With all his knowledge of years. GAJENDRA prays to Bhagwaan Vishnu.

That is what is called a "GAJENDRA MOKSHA STOTRAM"
Please by the "BHAKTI RASA" of GAJENDRA.

Bhagwaan Vishnu appeared on his Garuda, Bhagwaan Vishnu was holding a Sudarshana Chakra.

Eyes moist and heart filled with love. GAJENDRA swayed his trunk to pluck the nearby Lotus. He offered the Lotus to Bhagwan Vishnu.
GAJENDRA said "Please save me oh my lord"

In one swift move, Bhagwan Vishnu killed MAKARA with his Sudarshana Chakra.

After many thousand years. GAJENDRA was relieved.
The Moist-eyed Elephant was humbled. Bhagwaan Vishnu, took him in to narrate a story to him.

GAJENDRA, in his previous births was King Indradyumna. Once in a Forest, King Indradyumna was meditating. Agastya Rishi was passing by.
Lost in thoughts, King Indradyumna didnt notice Agastya Rishi.

Agastya Rishi was petrified for his insult and he cursed King Indradryumna to be reborn as an Elephant.
Just when, GAJENDRA left all of his Pride and surrendered to Bhagwaan Vishnu.

It was Bhagwaan himself who relieved GAJENDRA from this curse.
Gajendra Stotram is added to Vishnu Sahasranamam (1000 names of Vishnu)

शुक्लांबरधरं विष्णुं शशि वर्णं चतुर्भुजं ।
प्रसन्न वदनं ध्यायेत् सर्व विघ्नोपशान्तये॥

śuklāṃbaradharaṃ viṣṇuṃ śaśi varṇaṃ caturbhujaṃ |
prasanna vadanaṃ dhyāyēt sarva vighnōpaśāntayē ||
MAKARA, the Crocodile - was also called as HUHU. HUHU was a Gandharva.

Consumed by his good looks and being. HUHU tried to play tricks with Rishi Devala.

RIshi Devala was at a Pond to take bath.
Annoyed by his dirty tricks. Rishi Devala cursed Gandharva HUHU, that he would be reborn as a Crocodile and only the touch of Bhagwan Vishnu would turn him back.

On that day, not only GAJENDRA was freed from his Curse, MAKARA or HUHU was freed too.
The Symbolic Meaning of GAJENDRA MOKSHA is that Materialistic desires, ignorance and sins create an endless chain of Karma.

Humans are stuck in this cycle of Life and rebirth until you look beyond and submit to the ultimate.

Bhagwaan Vishnu.

I was at a theatre watching a film. Loved the film and we (me and elder bro) left in an auto. Aged Auto driver took us in and a ride of 11 kms and lots of learning began.
He started to ask us about the film. We told him about it. He told many things about Bengaluru and the Kannada Film craze here. However, conversation took a interesting turn, when I asked him his age.
Not to offend him, I called him Tatha (Grandpa). Because he was old and had white hair. His hands bore skin with many wrinkles of old age and years of life experience.

He said, one should not ask about age and one should not tell his age too.

Today lets learn something about "Baherji Naik" (Head of Intelligence Department of Chattapati Shivaji Maharajs Army). In Marathi his department was called as "Guptaher Khaata", which loosely translates to Intelligence Department.
Bahirji Naik was a PILLAR of a strong intelligence network (possibly the best of that time) working for Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Around 3000 Soldiers (Mavlas) worked in this Intelligence unit and Bahirji Naik was head of all.
Without the contribution of this "Guptaher KHaata", the long standing dream of SWARAJYA would not have been achieved. Bahirji Naik, was the foundation of every war strategy prepared by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

THREE GUNAS.

Once long ago there were three friends. They were very poor and lived and a very small village. The land in the village was infertile and there was no work to do. One day these friends decided to go to a big city and find some work there.
So, one early morning they packed their bags and left for the city. They had no money, so they decided to walk to the city. It was the month of May when the summer is at its peak in India.
By noon all their water and food were finished so they decided to take a short break and rest under the shadow of a tree in the nearby forest. They were hungry and thirsty but there was no food or water left.

Lachit Borphukan, Forgotten HERO of ASSAM.

#ASSAM, with its roots in the word Asama or invincible, denotes how this land held its own, through Indian history. Ruled by the powerful Ahoms for 600 years from the mid 13th century, the Mughals couldn’t touch Assam.
The year was 1671 and the decisive #BattleofSaraighat was fought on the raging waters of the Brahmaputra.
On one side was Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb’s army headed by Ram Singh of Amer (Jaipur) and on the other was the Ahom General Lachit Borphukan
To understand the story of #LachitBorphukan’s triumph over the Mughals, it is important to get some context of the history, geography and politics of Assam. The kingdom of Assam comprised of a stretch of land 600 miles wide, along the banks of Brahmaputra river.
