A division bench of Hon'ble Mr. Siddharth Mridul J. and Mr. Rajnish Bhatnagar J. of the #DelhiHighCourt to hear Umar Khalid's bail plea today.

Umar Khalid's counsel, Mr. Trideep Pais, begins arguments. Court reads transcript of the speech given by Khalid.

Court asks Mr. Pais to explain Khalid's statement made on the PM to the effect that the PM's statement "Hindustan Mei sab changa si" is far from the truth and that "Hindustan Mei modi Nanga si"

Bhatnagar J. - Is this appropriate to talk about our PM this way?

Bhatnagar J. - Could other words not have been used?

Trideep Pais - Milords this word "Nanga si" does not amount to a terror crime. A lot worse has been said about our heads of state. The finance minister had been called "Napunsak". This cant be said to be an act of terror

Mridul J. - What is the meaning of the words used in the speech such as "inqalab" and "krantikari"? It is not been said "Inqalab zindabad". It is said with the word "krantikari"

Trideep Pais - Irfan Habib, has a podcast on the interpretation of the word "inqalab"

Mridul J. - unless you plan on giving us a history lesson, we dont need to hear the podcast on "inqalab"

Pais - A radical change or revolution.

Pais - Milords may also allow me to show the meaning of the word "revolution" during the indian independence movement.

Mridul J. - We are independent! where is the need for revolution now?

Pais - I have used the word "revolution" to call for people to protest and boycott an unfair law. It sits well with the idea of a non violent satyagraha protesting the law.

Pais - Milords all I am trying to say is that simply using the word "revolution" does not mean violence or terror. There is revolution in engineering, science...

..+ technology, etc. These are not violent calls for revolution. Thoughts of violence, ideas of violence should not be mixed up with the meaning of the word revolution

Chargesheet refers to Umar Khalid being the mentor of Sharjeel Imam.

Pais - fertile imagination of the police milords! no evidence of this in any regard.

Also refers to adjectives used for Sharjeel imam as "communal" and other flowery language used in the chargesheet.

chargesheet says that the WhatsApp group was formed on the instructions of Umar Khalid.

Pais - No iota of evidence to this!

Mridul J. - We can stop at the point. Because it seems like it is not convenient to hear this piecemeal on different dates. So what we propose is to hear this matter, Monday onwards everyday post lunch. We would like to finish this matter before court vacation.
