Impressive letter from @NDP to the 🇨🇦 government, urging concrete action in response to the killing murder of Abu Akleh, threats of forcible transfer in #MasaferYatta, and the crime of apartheid. Thank you @HMcPhersonMP for your principled advocacy. 👏#cdnpoli
@NDP@HMcPhersonMP In this letter, the @NDP is asking the government to:
1⃣ Refer the case of murdered journalist Shireen Abu Akleh to the International Criminal Court;
2⃣ Denounce Israel’s plan of expelling the residents of #MasaferYatta (forcible transfer) and send a rep to visit the area;
@NDP@HMcPhersonMP 3⃣ Respond in a detailed way to the report from Amnesty International which concludes that Israel is practicing the crime against humanity of apartheid;
4⃣ End weapons sales to Israel;
5⃣ Immediately ban products from illegal Israeli settlements;
@NDP@HMcPhersonMP 5⃣ Refer the allegations of Israel's crimes against humanity (apartheid) to the International Criminal Court;
6⃣ Call for the restoration of the Special Committee against Apartheid at the United Nations.
@NDP@HMcPhersonMP This is an important set of demands which meaningfully responds to the critical advocacy and research coming out of the human rights sector. CJPME thanks @HMcPhersonMP for listening to Palestinians, NGOs, and UN experts, and urges 🇨🇦 to adopt these measures immediately. #cdnpoli

Press release: CJPME is alarmed to learn that Canada’s military exports to Israel increased by 33% in 2021, amid Israel’s 11-day bombing campaign against the occupied Gaza Strip. Canada must halt this trend by immediately suspending all military trade with Israel. #cdnpoli
According to Canada’s newly released annual report on military exports, Canada exported $26m in military goods to Israel in 2021.
This is way up from $19.5m in 2020, and approaches the historical high-water mark of $26.9m in 1987.
“It is outrageous that Canada’s arms exports to Israel skyrocketed last year, even as Israeli forces were bombing residential buildings Gaza, assaulting worshippers at the al-Aqsa mosque, and shooting children in the West Bank" - CJPME's @mbueckertcjpme.org/2022_05_31_can…
❓ Who killed journalist #ShireenAbuAkleh?
❓ Why would a joint PA-Israel investigation be absurd?
❓ Does Israel have a history of targeting journalists?

In 2016, 84% of @CanadianGreens members voted for sanctions on Israel.
So why won't new Green leader @AnnamiePaul speak in support of sanctions, or even answer a straightforward question on the topic? #GPC#GPCLeadership#cdnpoli
In September during the foreign policy debate, candidates were asked whether they support imposing sanctions on Israel. Annamie Paul was one of only 3 candidates who didn't say Yes.
(Glen Murray clarified in a tweet later that he does support sanctions)
Breaking: @AnnamiePaul has been elected leader of the @CanadianGreens. In August, CJPME & @IndJewishVoices assessed Paul's positions on Middle East issues & awarded her a grade of C-.
Annamie Paul is one of only 2 candidates who refused to endorse the MP pledge to oppose Israeli annexation, which was signed by all 3 Green MPs. She refused to respond to our questionnaire. She has no foreign policy on her website.
This is how Annamie Paul responded to a specific question about whether she would support imposing sanctions on Israel. She doesn’t answer the question, other than to say that she prefers dialogue. (During @rabbleca / @ForeignPoli_C debate)
CJPME condemns the detention of Cihan Erdal by Turkey as arbitrary and politically motivated. We call on the Canadian government to demand Erdal’s immediate release, and to guarantee his safe return to Canada. #FreeCihan@FP_Champagne@CanEmbTurkeycjpme.org/pr_2020_09_28_…
