Let's do a quick Thread about the second biggest political blunder in US history
#MoscowMitch McTurtle was given a chance to make the January 6th hearings END by last Christmas, yes end of year 2021. And have half of the seats by Republicans incl Senate
Mitch Blunder Thread 2/
Can you imagine what kind of circus the Jan 6th hearings would've been if we'd have to listen to the whine of Repulsican Senators like Ted Cruz #CancunCruz & #LeningradLindsey Graham?
Speaker Pelosi OFFERED THIS DEAL to Mitch McConnell. He turned it down
Mitch Blunder Thread 3/
When #MoscowMitch (use that term, he hates it) McTurtle was offered this bipartisan, bicameral deal by Speaker Pelosi, where GOP would have had EQUAL power, Mitch personally lobbied AGAINST the deal
So now we have Pelosi's bipartisan House cttee instead
Mitch Blunder Thread 4/
This mistake by McConnell to reject orig bipartisan & bicameral Jan 6th committee deal by Pelosi is second biggest political blunder in US history
Ironically, worst blunder was also #MoscowMitch when he did not push to indict Trump in second impeachment
Mitch Blunder Thread 5/
And third biggest blunder in US political history? Was House Minority Leader Qevin McCoward pulling the accepted 3 Republican members from this bipartisan House committee on Jan 6th after Pelosi blocked the two criminals McCarthy had nominated

As televised hearings start in Congress on 9 June in USA, on the January 6th insurrection, and this is likely to be a major event here on Twitter for probably several weeks, I want to give a primer about this Jan 6th for my non-American followers
Primer on Jan 6th Hearings 2/
While the war in Ukraine is biggest geopolitical story now (Putin world's biggest terrorist) for next few weeks a rival story is about attempted elimination of democracy in America. What happened on January 6th. The Congressional hearings about that
Primer on Jan 6th Hearings 3/
Jan 6th 2021 was an attempted coup d'etat
Outgoing US President Donald Trump attempted to overturn the election he lost by 7 million votes, through a violent assault on the US Capitol, with some wanting to torture or kill leaders from both parties
Let's kill some Generals. NO, Twitter, no! I was not threatening any Russian Generals, no. I meant, let's discuss this sudden outbreak of DGS, Dead Generals Syndrome, in a Thread. By some counts between 13 and 15 Generals have already died in Ukraine
Deaded Generals Thread 2/
For context. In WW2, USA had a military nearly 100 times larger than what Russia now sent to Ukraine. USA fought in Asia against Japan + in Africa & Europe against Germany & Italy. & lost 4 Generals in 4 years of war. Russia lost 14 Generals in 14 weeks
Deaded Generals Thread 3/
This level of Generals lost in combat by Russia in its invasion war of Ukraine is a modern era record (for command incompetence)
I will not now go into speculation on how this was achieved by Ukraine #SlavaUkraini#HeroiamSlava to not warn next targets
After 7 weeks of failure in the glorious 3 Day War invading Ukraine, Czar LilliPutin put this dude, General Dvornikov in charge of the war in Ukraine. We can now examine through some numbers to see how war changed. What is the 'Dvornikov Doctrine'
New Russian Strategy Thread 2/
Because of the excellent daily count of Russian losses via @KyivIndependent - we can compare the time before Dvornikov (original intended strategy) to the new 'Dvornikov Doctrine'. This was the daily losses as of 24 March, one month into the war:
New Russian Strategy Thread 3/
After Dvornikov took charge, there would be a few weeks of transition to his new strategy. By now he has been in charge for 7 weeks. Let's take the last 30 days, compared to first 30 days. Here are Russian losses as of May 2 via @KyivIndependent
Let me show you briefly what is going on with the sudden Southern Counter-Offensive by Ukraine, in the Battle of Donbas that has run for 5 weeks now
Let's do a short thread drawing onto this excellent map by cc @war_mapper from a few days ago
Kherson Counter-Attack Thread 2/
The Battle of Donbas is the largest land-battle in Europe since World War 2. It has involved more than 200,000 soldiers, several thousand tanks, and run for 5 weeks, with over 10,000 dead and twice that injured (both sides combined)
Kherson Counter-Attack Thread 3/
I took the excellent map by cc @war_mapper from just before the Ukrainian counter-offensive started. This was essentially the 'best moment' for Russia in the Battle of Donbas. Let's start with the circle in yellow. That is town of Sievierodonetsk
Artillery duels in attrition wars last months. Each side tries to have its artillery destroy the other side's artillery
Russia started with huge numerical advantage. Russia also has kept reinforcing its artillery (with older guns) & resupplying ammunition which is standard...
Ukraine had FOUR areas where it was at disadvantage for a prolonged artillery due
Ukraine had less artillery. Also less ammunition stockpile
Also their Russian-made artillery was older type, less accurate
And their older Russian-made artillery had less range
Ukraine's immediate need was RUSSIAN standard ammunition from West (152mm and 122mm rounds). And such artillery pieces. Estonia was first nation to send Ukraine artillery from its small army (122mm guns)
Then as that ammunition will run out, Ukraine needs to CHANGE to Western
I discussed the addition of Finland to NATO, how that complicates Russian military/strategy because of the proximity of Finland to Russia. How does Sweden impact Russia, because Sweden does not share a land border? Let's do Thread about Sweden now..
Sweden NATO Thread 2/
First, the SEA lanes part that relate to Finland joining NATO, esp relating to Baltic Sea, are equally relevant with Sweden, arguably more so with the Danish Straits. So here is my Sea Lanes part of Finland & NATO:
