NEW: Colorado's Catholic bishops tell Catholic state legislators who voted for abortion access to "voluntarily refrain from receiving Holy Communion" until they offer "public repentance." #coleg #copolitics
"The burden from their decision does not rest upon the shoulders of priests, deacons or lay Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist. It rests upon the consciences and souls of those politicians who have chosen to support this evil and unjust law," the public letter read in part.
The letter, dated June 6, says most of the Catholic legislators who voted in favor of abortion access were unwilling to meet with church leaders.

The view of Colorado's Catholic bishops on this issue is at odds with that of Pope Francis. nytimes.com/2021/09/15/wor…

NEW: Colorado Republican powerbroker Joe Oltmann, who called for mass hangings of political opponents, has issued a new call to seize control of the US government. Oltmann referenced the Doctrine of the Lesser Magistrate, an idea promoted by religious extremists. #copolitics Image
Oltmann, whose influential group FEC United collected signed loyalty pledges from GOP candidates, directed followers to “warrior up,” writing, “Restoration requires you to tear it down, without permission.” Image
Oltmann has called for the hangings of US Senators by name and suggested CO Gov Jared Polis should be hanged. Oltmann was the source of the baseless claim that Denver-based Dominion Voting Systems conspired with Antifa to rig the 2020 election.

You’re right, Roger, one political group in Colorado is overrepresented in the #HeyNext audience. But it’s Unaffiliated voters (50%+ of the Next audience vs 44.8% active voters). #copolitics
Our recent research indicates registered Democrats and Republicans are each underrepresented in the Next audience by about 2-3%. I know that you, as an elected official, base your views on research and evidence as opposed to hunches, so I hope this is interesting and useful info.
And I should note, the political makeup of the show’s audience doesn’t make Next “good” or “bad” just as the fact that it’s the most-watched local newscast doesn’t make it “good” or “bad.” Numbers are just numbers.

Horses are iconic in Colorado. In reality, many older horses are abandoned or sold to slaughterhouses. @COHorseRescue saves horses and finds them loving homes. #HeyNext viewers have raised $40,000 to help. I'll match the next fifty $5 donations here: chr.org/word-of-thanks/
@CoHorseRescue Colorado Horse Rescue's goal is the best outcome for each horse with no judgment for the former owner. Two-thirds of the horses they take in are surrendered, the other one-third are saved from kill buyers at auction.
@CoHorseRescue As Colorado Horse Rescue notes, Coloradans don't euthanize dogs that are too old to hike with their owners, but some horses are discarded because they are no longer rideable. CHR works to find owners willing to take in those companion horses.

UPDATE: GOP gubernatorial candidate Greg Lopez said Denver is “taking away the popular vote” of rural counties in his first comments since 9News outlined Lopez’s plan to eliminate one-person one-vote in Colorado’s statewide elections. #copolitics
Lopez spoke Thursday on the KNUS talk radio show of former AG candidate @GeorgeBrauchler. In 2019, Brauchler suggested a similar electoral college type system for the Colorado Senate, which would have given Republicans a significant advantage. Image
“Denver is taking away the popular vote of La Plata County, Montezuma County, of other counties,” Lopez said. “One neighborhood in one suburb of Denver will outvote the voices of rural Colorado, say, La Junta. And those people are like, where are my voices?”

NEW: Republican candidate for Colorado Governor @LopezforCO proposes eliminating one-person one-vote for statewide elections. Lopez's plan for a state-level electoral college system would heavily favor Republicans. 9news.com/article/news/l… #cogov #copolitics
Lopez outlined his proposal to scrap the popular vote during a May 15 campaign stop in rural San Juan County. Lopez said counties should be allotted electoral votes based on turnout percentage, which would concentrate electoral power in small, rural counties.
The Lopez campaign did not answer questions about the details of his electoral college proposal. In 2018, @GovofCO Polis defeated @WalkerStapleton by 10%+. Our analysis indicates Lopez's plan would have created a +28 pt shift to Republicans. Stapleton would have won by 18%.

UPDATE: @washingtonpost reports today that Colorado’s Joe Oltmann had a high-level State Department meeting with a Trump-appointed assistant Secretary of State on Jan 6, the day of the Capitol insurrection. washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/… #copolitics
WaPo: “The meeting came as Trump’s allies were pressing theories that election machines had been hacked by foreign powers and were angling for Trump to employ the vast powers of the national security establishment to seize voting machines or even rerun the election.”
Oltmann had previously claimed he had high level State Department access on the day of the attempted coup but this is the first time I’ve seen it confirmed from inside the Trump State Department.
