Italian deliveries to Ukraine: to report them or not? A (small) thread:
I often read in the comments to my tweets that perhaps I should not post about our delivery flights to Ukraine. I understand the writer's fears about the safety of our flights and our guys, but they are 1/7
unfounded fears. For these reasons:
- The flights I report have active transponders; anyone can log on and check the status of the flights;
- our flights (like those of the allies) follow safe routes, there is no risk of anyone getting strange ideas about them; 2/7
- even though we follow secure routes, additional security measures are taken on every single flight (everyone does it);
- some of our flights (the most important ones) are not detectable by me, or anyone else publicly (ok, it's a bit more complex talk). 3/7
Having pressed the reasons why there is no cause for concern, let us come to the reasons why instead (my two cents) it's better for everyone to know about our deliveries:
- For the Ukrainians here: seeing that we are on their side keeps their spirits up. Especially since 4/7
Russian disinformation often attacks Italy (and EU) in an attempt to demoralize Ukrainian into believing it's abandoned by everyone. IT'S NOT.
- For the Russians: did you pay that Italian politician? Did you subsidize that Italian journalist? Well, seeing our 5/7
constant deliveries reminds them of one thing: all the rubles they have spent over the years have been money wasted.
- For the Italians who stand by Ukrainian and put up with all the pro-Russian bullshit here: seeing us do it heartens the soul. Because it reminds us 6/7
that no matter how much noise the pro-Russian usefull idiots make, one of our planes will always land in Rzeszow.
What are these disinformation attacks against Italy (or any European country) for? Primarily to demoralize Ukrainian users on social media in an attempt that this demoralization may spread to the Ukrainian population and make them psychologically give in, make them believe 1/4
that everyone in the EU is playing a double game. Secondly to create division within EU countries: the French user reads disinformation and attacks the German, the German reads disinformation and attacks the Italian, and so on, in an endless loop. We must not allow this to 2/4
happen, Ukraine's existence also passes through here. All united in the face of Russia, all together against the tyrant. All stand by our Ukrainian brothers and sisters. Do not retweet garbage, develop critical thinking and if you can always fact check what you read. 3/4
Another case of anti-Italian disinformation on the Ukraine issue - A thread 🧵
All sources at the end of the thread. Links to disinformation sites are posted anonymously via the anonymouse service. 1/18
An alleged statement by the italian General Leonardo Tricarico on the Ukraine issue is beginning to circulate, this one:
"The European Union needs to abandon the crazy idea of winning the war in Ukraine. We must force Ukraine to capitulate and not provoke Russia into more 2/18
serious actions." - Italian General Leonardo Tricarico [1].
Foreword: Germany, like Italy, is also the victim of disinformation attacks (like all European countries). I cannot talk about it specifically because I am not German; what follows is therefore my opinion on the "Germany issue" net of 1/12
disinformation.
DISCLAIMER: This is'nt a post of mockery of Germany. Please, be kind. 2/12
Often I, too, when confronted with certain German statements or hesitations, exclaim: C'mon! What the hell is going on, dudes! Then I am reminded of a discussion I had with a German friend a few years ago about Germany's past 3/12
Italy, mystification and lies on the Ukraine issue. A thread 🧵
I am writing this thread because the situation has become intolerable and it is no longer possible to accept reading false narratives based on lies and mystifications regarding "the Italian position." 1/24
All sources will be listed at the end of the thread. Let's start:
1. Italy does not deliver arms to Ukraine, or does so slowly? FALSE, IT'S A LIE: Italy was among the very first European countries to supply armaments to Ukraine. 01/03/2022: Exactly 8 days after the start 2/24
of the war (24/02) we were already supplying the first arms deliveries to Ukraine. On some deliveries the Italian government put state secret [1] and all the first deliveries were under this rule. Putting this rule of state secret made it possible to send weapons to Ukraine 3/24
The problem isn't Russian disinformation saying that Draghi is a Putin supporter. We know that this is the purpose of disinformation: to divide internal and external public opinion. The problem arises when even important figures, ostensibly on the side of Ukraine and the free 1/
world, start this narrative. What is unclear about Draghi's actions? "I have not seen any glimmer of peace," he said at a press conference. What does that mean? It means that the Italian government can act in a certain direction (provide armaments and aid as it has already 2/
done and is doing) without being accused by the (pro-Russian) opposition anymore of not trying all possible avenues. It means not getting shot down by the political opposition that insists on this issue. Draghi, by calling Putin, got out of the way of the (this one real) 3/
