In 2020 the Netflix documentary "Athlete A" highlights the legal proceedings against Larry Nassar and the various bodies who knew the abuse was taking place. The brave women who spoke out are currently in process of suing FBI.

Following "Athlete A" and HBO documentary "At the Heart of Gold" (2019) gymnasts in other nations began speaking out publicly to the press in numbers too big to ignore.

To be clear this is not a Gymnastics problem. This is a Sport problem.
Of the top 9 performing sports for GB in Rio - 7 have had reviews regarding welfare or safeguarding issues.
In certain areas of elite sport, no change regarding athletes welfare has occurred in five years.

We have lost our way in sport. Winning has taken over everything and justifies every behaviour that is unacceptable in other areas of society.
Speaking out about abuse is seen as a far worse behaviour than the physical/mental/sexual abuse.
Those running sport have failed so many.

Where do we go from here?
When I think of where sport is, I am reminded of a short scene about how great the US is but it lost its way.
I believe sport is great but we must remember how we treat athletes is the priority and without them, there is nothing!
