25 June 2022 - #MAGAanalysis Roe v Wade Edition

I considered (and then rejected) the idea of entitling today's analysis like so:

Rights, Rule Of Law, Life, Murder

Rejecting the title, we're going right there anyway. The decision to end a life, purposefully, is murder.
2) You may believe me when I tell you, I thought long and hard before I hit "Tweet" above. I know that, for me personally, there is no going back after posting that. For the rest of my life, even if I were to recant, I will always be judged by the above statement. Always.
3) I have granddaughters who may never speak to me again. I will lose business in my coaching practice. While far from the first to use the term "murder" on topic, having done so, I may never take it back. And I am doing so. Abortion is murder. It is not a right.
4) Typically, I have always attempted to stay my statements of such a nature, and to refrain from rapid comment on the most heated topics of the moment. There are many reasons I may not refrain from comment today. However...
5) What I may do - and am - is to take my time. I may go slowly, and thoughtfully. I may take this conversation to the heights and depths I am able, without apology. That is what this post will be. Slow and methodical, high and low, slowly we will go. Please join me.
6) Another title, which no one would have understood, is this:

There Is NO Line

When is a fetus alive? When does life commence? It is impossible to draw a line. The Quickening was a line I employed for many years, defending abortion prior, attacking it after. Alas, no longer.
7) Well there is a line, but it's more like no line than not. Conception is the line. Understand, I have NO religious mandate I follow, here. Between Divine and Natural Law, I'm a Natural Law believer. For me, where there may be a God, there may. I am NOT a believer, though.
8) Follow the logic. At some point, certainly by the moment after a child is born, it is a human with all human rights, most especially the right to life. The right to life is the first of all our rights. How do you argue against that? So, once born, we enjoy the right to life.
9) Linger there. Infanticide is murder. If you steal your way into a hospital nursery and strange a baby you will be tried for murder. We're not allowed to murder babies. Okay, well, when does that prohibition commence? What about a fetus in the birth canal? Can you "end" it?
10) There are certainly states in America where such "endings" are legal. They are allowed. I simply ask, based upon what logic? That the fetus, as yet unborn, is not a human? That it has no rights? That it is merely a part of the mother's body, to be removed like a mole?
11) I cry foul. A baby in the birth canal, fighting to come out and breathe its first breath is no mere appendage. It is a human, and has all rights. Few actually argue this, and yet the right to abort this life is legal in so many places. I call it murder.
12) Go back and back. Countless entities have published week by week counts of life. But let's cut to the beginning and those who, unlike me, have complete faith in a Divine Creator. For them, every single life is His miracle, commenced at conception.
13) How do you tell these good souls they're wrong? No, there's no God. No, He has no will for humans. No, He doesn't care about this or that person. No, He doesn't care about this or that mere fetus. No, life is NOT His miracle. You're so 100% certain? I'm not.
14) So, if you ask me, I can't be the guy to tell you it's okay here - go ahead, end that thing - but it's not okay there - that's a human and as such, it has rights. I cannot draw that line. What's more, I have fully come to believe it does not exist. There is no line.
15) Intellectually, spiritually, there is a big problem here. The very idea of rights is a very tricky, very profound intellectual challenge. Over the years, as I've fought with my beloved Liberal friends, I've found that this is simply where we cannot speak. We truly disagree.
16) For them, rights are what we make them. For me, rights cannot be made. A society, a government, a legal system, in all its human fallibility, attempts to build laws in accord with rights. Rights inhere, they take shape WITHIN a human, NOT due to any power's actions.
17) I believe that the very definition of a free people - one which NEVER existed prior to 1776 - is the inherence of rights within the person and NOT the people alone. The people, as in We The People, have rights. But, our founding was built upon the rights of the person.
18) Try to follow the math. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." This is a mathematical statement.
19) Push the logic inward. EACH man is created EQUAL. And, the word "man," or "men" meant nothing relative to gender. This is proved by the 19th Amendment. Up until recently, the word "men" equaled the word "people." All persons are created EQUAL.
20) Be it granted by God or Nature, or by Nature's God, a right inheres within the person, unalienably, inalienably, in such a manner as CANNOT be removed. Yes, you may trample upon a right. But no, you cannot destroy one, nor can you create one.
21) It is this concept, that rights exist all on their own, unremovable, and are NOT created by men, that best defines the cancerous disease in the Soul of America. We don't get more rights by writing new laws. We don't take rights away by unwriting laws. Rights exist.
22) So where rights come first, before law, law follows second, after rights. That is, we must always seek to perfect our laws against our rights. No law system may - being a human product - live perfectly up to its burden in support of rights. We perfect laws against rights.
23) And that right which all of our law must be first judged is...life. The right to life - the Right to Life - is and cannot be other, the first right and the first obligation of all law. But what about the death penalty? Let's go there.
24) The Law states very simply, you have commited the murder of others so egregiously that you have broken your own right to life. Therefore, we shall execute you, removing your life from you. This is the way of rights. The only way to break them is to break someone else's.
25) Follow it out. You have the right to your property, until you've taken someone else's. At that point, any property you have may be rightly confiscated to meet the needs of he whom you have stolen from. Breach another's rights, lose your own. This is how it works.
26) The left tells us that a woman has the right to control her own body, and that as such, has the right of an abortion. As long as you define the fetus as not human, this cannot be argued. I challenge the left again, what exactly is the line? I say, as you know, no line exists.
27) Then candidate Trump gave us a list of 10 Planks that make up the #MAGA Movement. Here are 1 - 5:

2) Rule of Law
3) American Jobs
4) Quality of Life for Every American
5) Heal Our Cities

31) When the decision hit the news wires yesterday, I was immediately struck by the following question: did @KateScopelliti and I talk about this in our book...at all? The answers is...we didn't. Back in 2018, no one, other than Trump perhaps, could have dreamed of this.
32) We now know that, after these years, if we elected Trump for no other reason, we did so, through SCOTUS appointments, to save the lives of our unborn children. No greater step forward toward living by the Rule Of Law has occurred in our lifetimes.
33) A member of my family, a beloved "daughter," posted yesterday at Facebook that it was now time to take up arms in protection of the right of abortion. She'll never credit me with this, but I was proud of her fighting spirit. But consider what she is ready to fight for.
34) It is nothing other than the principle of death over life, of murder over procreation. In times past we knew the answer. In today's world, there is a thriving, multi-billion dollar industry of adoption. Babies are stolen, kidnapped to be sold. It is very profitable.
35) In the past, we knew to offer a young, pregnant woman the option of giving her child up for adoption. Now, we say, "kill it." We have come out against life itself. We murder our unborn children. This atrocity must end. We must worship again on the altar of life, not death.
36) As opposed to so many of my friends, I am 100% for contraception. Unlike myself in the past, I am 100% against abortion in any form, at any point in time, to include the morning-after pills. I say, we have no right of murder. I say, it is murder.
37) As perhaps you can tell, I'm a pretty poor atheist, if I even am one. But to my fellow atheists I say this. If we can't face the moral challenge of "as if," what are we for? If our world is not as morally sound as the religionists', what's our claim?
38) Our claim is that a mother has a right to end her pregnancy by fiat, because the fetus is merely part of her body. Can you say spurious? Where's the moral validity underlying that claim? Pregnancy is a conspiracy of men against women? What about evolution? What about science?
39) I say that evolution "engineered" a woman with the ability to gestate. A woman and a man may impregnate, through sex, which evolution made a whole hell of a lot of fun. Sex is good. Children are good. If you're pregnant, rejoice. Life is good.
40) And I say also, adoption is good. Don't murder the child, bear it. Give it birth. Maybe even fall in love with it once born. But by all means, give it away if you can't live with it. Adoption is the answer to abortion. Our laws should reflect that.

A Republic If…

The quote is famous: "Do we have a Republic or a Monarchy," Ben Franklin was asked? Ominously, he replied, "A Republic if you can keep it." Please note that he was not asked about a Democracy. Let's discuss that.
2) It's not that difficult, really. A Republic is WHAT we are. Democracy is HOW we do it. We honor the vote of the majority in our elections...for representatives who create the laws, and for executives who execute those laws. That's a Republic.
3) From just this much we can see that the founders did NOT have a crystal ball. Remember, they were against political parties and could not have imagined the two-party system we have now, and have had ever since the turn of the 18th into the 19th century.
