MUST-READ: The fall of Roe didn't happen overnight. It's the result of a decades-long effort by extreme anti-abortion lawmakers to peddle misinformation and pass laws to chip away our rights.

HERE is how Republican lawmakers & judges have been mobilizing for a post-Roe America⬇️
Just hours after SCOTUS overturned Roe, ARKANSAS Attorney General Leslie Rutledge confirmed that abortion is now immediately illegal. AR is one of 13 states with “trigger bans” which will prohibit abortion within 30 days of Roe's fall—several of which took effect the day of.
In five states without trigger laws—Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, Ohio, and South Carolina—courts have blocked or struck down recent laws that banned most or all abortions. Without Roe, those laws will probably take effect within weeks or months. (WaPo)
FLORIDA has been preparing for a 15-week abortion ban to go into effect today, July 1, after Gov. DeSantis signed the ban into law in April—widely considered to model the Mississippi law which was considered by SCOTUS in Dobbs v JWHO. cbsnews.com/miami/news/flo…
FLORIDA's Governor DeSantis also vetoed $2 million meant to help low-income people access long-acting birth control—which had been sent to his desk with bipartisan support. tampabay.com/news/florida-p…
IDAHO lawmakers passed a new law banning abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy—and that was before Idaho’s trigger law which went into effect when Roe fell. apnews.com/article/aborti…
IDAHO: Unless the life of the mother is directly threatened, Idaho law will require patients to present their doctor with a police report documenting rape or incest to obtain a legal abortion. opb.org/article/2022/0…
IDAHO: The state House's Assistant Majority Leader said his caucus would consider banning certain forms of birth control, including Plan B emergency contraception and intrauterine devices (IUDs).

To be clear: Plan B and IUDs are used to PREVENT pregnancy.
IOWA: Just two weeks ago, Iowa’s state Supreme Court gutted its own 2018 ruling that there is a “fundamental right” to abortion in the state’s constitution.
KANSAS Republican attorney general candidate Kris Kobach—who, if elected, may end up with the power to criminalize abortion—released a plan for the office in which he promised to push for laws “to make Kansas the most pro-life state in America.” kansascity.com/news/politics-…
LOUISIANA’s legislature just passed two abortion bills that ban most abortions in the state, criminalize providers who perform the procedure, and outlaw mailing abortion pills to people in LA—opening the door for interstate battles. abcnews.go.com/Health/louisia…
LOUISIANA's “legislature briefly considered a bill that would define a fetus as a person for the purpose of the state’s homicide law... the notion of so-called personhood laws is likely to become more realistic” now that Roe has been overturned. slate.com/news-and-polit…
MICHIGAN: A Republican lawmaker introduced a bill that not only prohibits abortion at all stages of pregnancy, it also would make providing an abortion a 10-year felony carrying an up to $100,000 fine. detroitnews.com/story/news/pol…
MICHIGAN’s Republican-led legislature had also asked a state judge to allow a 1931 abortion ban to take effect if SCOTUS overturned Roe v. Wade. pewtrusts.org/en/research-an…
MISSISSIPPI Attorney General Lynn Fitch on Monday certified the state’s 2007 trigger law, which will implement a near-total abortion ban next week. mississippitoday.org/2022/06/27/fit…
MISSISSIPPI: On @MeetThePress, Governor Reeves would not say whether he would sign legislation banning birth control. nbcnews.com/meet-the-press…
MISSOURI: A 2019 state law, which included a trigger ban, also “funneled millions of tax dollars to fight abortion” and drained state revenues by increasing tax credits for MO taxpayers who donate money to crisis pregnancy centers. kcur.org/news/2022-06-0…
MISSOURI: The state has floated a first-of-its-kind proposal to allow private citizens to sue anyone who helps a Missouri resident have an abortion outside the state—from the out-of-state physician to whoever helps transport a person across state lines. politico.com/news/2022/03/1…
OKLAHOMA Gov. Stitt signed an abortion ban that bans nearly all abortions starting at fertilization and takes effect immediately—modeled after a Texas law that allows individuals to sue abortion providers and others who aid someone in seeking an abortion. nytimes.com/2022/05/25/us/…
SOUTH DAKOTA is one of 19 states with trigger laws set to automatically ban abortion in some capacity now that Roe has been overturned. Gov. Noem also said she will ban telemedicine appointments with abortion care providers who prescribe pills online. thehill.com/homenews/sunda…
TENNESSEE: Gov. Bill Lee signed legislation that would criminalize obtaining abortion pills through mail delivery. The original bill had up to a 20-year prison sentence. newschannel5.com/news/gov-lee-s…
TEXAS: After passing last year's abortion ban enforced by bounty hunters, TX Rs have suggested bills to stop women from traveling out of state to get abortions, target abortion assistance funds, & reclassify emergency contraception like Plan B as abortion. texastribune.org/2022/05/09/tex…
In TEXAS, the fall of Roe virtually eliminates abortion access. Last year, the Republican legislature passed a trigger law that will go into effect 30 days after Dobbs decision, which includes criminalizing doctors and making performing abortion a felony. texastribune.org/2022/06/24/tex…
UTAH's abortion ban “includes language that may make it impossible for most patients to claim an exemption” for medical complications. Doctors and legal experts say exemptions “won't actually protect patients in most medical complications.” axios.com/local/salt-lak…
VIRGINIA: Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin said he will seek an abortion ban after 15 weeks of pregnancy. While most state legislatures have adjourned for the year, some governors have expressed interest in convening special sessions to pass additional antiabortion bills.
WEST VIRGINIA: As of last Friday, the only abortion clinic in the state is no longer performing abortions.

“Roe has never been enough, but in states like West Virginia, it was the only thing protecting abortion access,” said Katie Quinonez, executive director of @womenshealthwv.
Overturning Roe may also affect U.S. territories. For instance: “Women from the remote U.S. territories of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands will likely have to travel farther than other Americans to terminate a pregnancy.” npr.org/2022/05/27/110…
PUERTO RICO, which Aborto Libre says largely “copy-paste[s]...laws from the States,” is currently facing measures that resemble, almost identically, anti-choice legislation that has recently passed in U.S. states, including abortion bans after 20 weeks. refinery29.com/en-us/2022/06/…
Many of these efforts will face litigation challenges—some already have. For example, just this week, a state judge imposed an injunction on the Florida 15-week ban.

But the grim and devastating impact of the Court’s decision in Dobbs cannot be understated.
Blue states have been bolstering reproductive rights, but make no mistake: the fall of Roe will impact women in places like IL, CA, and NY, as more people from states with abortion restrictions seek out-of-state services and strain blue states' capacities to perform procedures.
Overturning #Roe may also lead to interstate battles. In one scenario outlined by a @DrexelUniv law professor, providers in states where abortion is legal could potentially face prosecution for caring for a woman who crossed state lines for repro care. seattletimes.com/seattle-news/p…
It's not just red states that are attacking reproductive health care: it's Congressional Republicans. Senate Republican Leader McConnell has already floated the idea of a nationwide abortion ban the next time Republicans control Congress & the White House. thehill.com/news/senate/34…
The Heritage Foundation tweeted “Overturning Roe is just the beginning.”

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America launched a $2 mil ad buy in key swing states to encourage the expansion of red state legislatures.

Students for Life are pushing to classify Plan B as an abortifacient.
It is a fact that conservative state governments were preparing for a post-Roe America. Congress must check the conservative Court, enshrine into law the right to make one's own reproductive health care choices, and confirm judges who will uphold the rule of law.

COMING SOON: Former acting AG Jeffrey Rosen testifies alongside two other former DOJ officials, Rich Donoghue and Steve Engel, on information uncovered in this Committee's October 2021 investigative report.

Here's what you need to know before the upcoming #January6thHearings ⬇️
Last year, this Committee interviewed Rosen, Donoghue, and former US Attorney BJay Pak as a part of our tandem #January6th investigation. Their testimony makes clear that DOJ repeatedly told Trump that the stolen election claims he was peddling were false. judiciary.senate.gov/subverting-jus…
The information the #January6thCommitteeHearings will focus on includes key points uncovered in the Senate Judiciary Cmte interviews.

THIS MORNING 🚨 former U.S. Attorney BJay Pak testifies in the #January6thCommitteeHearings.

This Committee was the first to interview Pak in Summer 2021 about the Big Lie and false claims of election fraud in Georgia.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW before today's hearing ➡️
On December 3, 2020, Rudy Giuliani made a variety of false claims at a GA Senate subcommittee hearing, including claiming a video showed that election workers at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena had tabulated suitcases full of illegal ballots they had pulled from underneath a table.
The Georgia Secretary of State’s Office immediately refuted Giuliani's claim of election fraud in Atlanta, explaining that the video showed normal ballot processing.

MUST READ: As the #January6thCommitteeHearings begin, get caught up on what the Senate Judiciary Committee investigation has uncovered thus far.

WHAT WE FOUND in our investigation into former President Trump’s campaign to pressure DOJ to overturn the 2020 Election.

⬇️⬇️⬇️
On 1/22/21, @ktbenner reported that Acting AAG Jeffrey Clark sought to involve DOJ in efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results & plotted with then-President Trump to oust Acting AG Jeffrey Rosen, who reportedly refused Trump’s demands. /1 nytimes.com/2021/01/22/us/…
Two days later, @JessBravin & @sgurman reported that Trump had urged DOJ to file a lawsuit in the Supreme Court seeking to invalidate President Biden’s victory. /2 wsj.com/articles/trump…

TONIGHT, the #January6thCommitteeHearings begin in the House.

On the Senate side, this Committee has worked in tandem to investigate the events leading up to January 6, 2021, including the involvement of the President and House Republicans.

⬇️ WHAT WE FOUND ⬇️
In October, following the first 8 months of our investigation, Chair @SenatorDurbin released new testimony and a majority staff report entitled "Subverting Justice: How the Former President and his Allies Pressured DOJ to Overturn the 2020 Election." judiciary.senate.gov/press/dem/rele…
At this point, we can say that, without a doubt, Donald Trump’s efforts to spread his "Big Lie" and undermine the results of the election helped incite almost 1,000 Americans to breach the Capitol in a violent insurrection on January 6, 2021.

Findings:

Last year, Simone Biles and other gymnasts testified before this Committee during a hearing on the FBI's dereliction of duty in the Nassar case. It's obvious that the agents were not only negligent, but did their best to cover up what had happened—and that is inexcusable.
"How much is a little girl worth? It truly feels like the FBI turned a blind eye to us."

ICYMI: Olympic champion Simone Biles first testified to Congress in front of this Committee last September, telling her story of abuse at the hands of Larry Nassar.
ICYMI: Last September, Maggie Nichols told this Committee about a "false narrative" that allowed Larry Nassar to retire, rather than be prosecuted; meanwhile, the FBI failed to investigate reports and presented false information to OIG investigators.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee circulated talking points insisting that Republicans aren't pushing toward a total ban on abortion, nor infringing on other privacy rights like contraception.

HERE is the truth about what's happening in red state gov'ts RIGHT NOW ⬇️
ARKANSAS: If Roe is overturned, the state has a 2019 “trigger law” that will immediately ban abortions within the state except to save the life of the mother. The state's AG affirmed that this ban would take effect immediately. arkansasonline.com/news/2022/may/…
GEORGIA: 26 states are certain or likely to ban or severely restrict abortion without Roe, according to the Guttmacher Institute. GA's Gov. Kemp vowed that if the Supreme Court’s leaked ruling becomes final, he would lead efforts to criminalize abortion. khn.org/news/article/w…
