As @DrOz transitions to selling GOP snake oil, #FridayLimericks look to set the record straight. #LimerickRhyme
When a doctor decides to compete
For his own undeserved Senate seat,
It may make sense to look
Whether that guy’s a crook
Who is seeking a state to deplete.
We can start with the venue he chose;
Pennsylvania’s an odd place to pose.
Why’d the campaign go roam
Someplace so far from home?
This is not Mehmet’s place of repose. huffpost.com/entry/dr-oz-se…
There are facts that we shouldn’t conflate;
As a surgeon, he used to be great.
But from first TV cash,
Mehmet flipped in a flash,
And his standards were quick to abate. vox.com/2015/4/16/8412…
As his fame grew, Doc Oz made a choice
For what value to give with his voice.
Standards went on the shelf,
Because Oz chose himself;
Lost respect, but his bankers rejoice.
With more money, the lies would increase,
And no morals could make this man cease.
If there’s something to sell,
Mehmet does it quite well.
There’s no shortage of folks he can fleece.
While his millions can buy all the stuff,
For poor Oz, seems that’s not quite enough.
Though he’s lost his good name,
There’s a shortcut to fame:
Sell today’s lying GOP’s fluff. nbcnews.com/think/amp/rcna…
Though a doctor should strive for mass health,
Mehmet’s goal is not cloaked in much stealth.
He will lie and he’ll cheat,
And continue to bleat
Till his fame exceeds even his wealth. theguardian.com/us-news/2022/m…
So it’s not really any surprise
Mehmet’s donned his new Magat disguise.
Though he’s deeply unfit,
He is not going to quit;
He’ll just bathe in those Trumpian lies.
Mehmet Oz is the deepest of fakes,
And this midterm’s got highest of stakes.
With your rights on the line,
We need heart, mind, and spine—
And John Fetterman has what it takes.
Pennsylvania, please support @JohnFetterman for Senate. For all of our sakes.
We’re going to see many bursts of self-serving faux patriotism from the GOP and its media acolytes for Independence Day. While you read them, it’s worth considering what they really stand for. (Thread)
They will pretend to celebrate our Independence Day as a symbol of freedom, while many denigrate Ukraine in its own fight for independence and freedom from Russian tyranny.
They will pretend to celebrate our independence from England while they try to install permanently their own religious power structure—much like the Church of England did.
Tonight, #FridayLimericks returns to acknowledge @replouiegohmert for his bumbling insurreptitude. #LimerickRhyme
Mr. Gohmert would like to insist
The Committee should cease and desist.
Inconvenient new facts
Should be given the axe—
And besides, the request here was dissed.
And okay, Louie didn’t seem bright
With his thoughts on our climate change plight.
“Let’s push back on the moon!”
Kind of sounds like a loon—
If one wanted to make fun, one might.
The Supreme Court has done tremendous damage to our nation this week. I don’t say this lightly, or comfortably. But on a human level, and on an institutional level, this is a dark time. (Thread) #ResistanceUnited #LiveBlue2022
Since my time in law school, I’ve always tried to understand the reasoning as a possible justification for Supreme Court opinions. The institution is responsible for protecting the rights of citizens, and I have immense professional and personal respect for it. It matters.
But today’s iteration, and a majority of its members, does not hold that same respect. The opinions issued this week drip with disdain for the Court’s history and for the people whose rights should be protected. They operate solely as the payoff for right-wing power plays.
No, Marco. It’s because politicians like you lie all the time and decide which people matter to you. Distrust doesn’t come from trying to treat everyone with respect; it’s people like you. Liars and hypocrites who put their own political position over the people. (Thread)
People who post Bible verses while supporting the least Christ-like political positions in existence. People who send thoughts and prayers while the NRA bankrolls them. People who have an opportunity to stand for what is right, but shrink from the moment.
People who use political “service” positions primarily as a means to lift their financial outlook. People who purport to lead but jump on any divisive bandwagon they think gets them ahead of someone else. People who kiss Trump’s feet when they KNOW he is a cheat and a thief.
Republicans are taking two approaches to the hearings. To be clear, neither of these approaches has anything to do with addressing the evidence being presented. But, they are working hard to distract, so I’ll take a moment to acknowledge their frenetic dance. (Thread)
The first is the tried and true two-step of the GOP: whataboutism. “Why aren’t we holding hearings about X?” And of course there are issues on which this nation needs to work, most of them foreseeable, but nonetheless needing to be addressed.
We are still dealing with a pandemic, exacerbated by a stunning misinformation campaign that fought against efforts to avoid the worst of it or emerge more quickly from it. As the world opened, prices were always going to go up.
If you don’t understand members of the LGBTQ community, that’s okay. Fully understanding another person is impossible; you are not in that person’s head. But your lack of understanding is not an excuse for hate, or violence. It is not an excuse to deny someone else’s humanity.
Every time you see another person, you have an opportunity to learn. To grow. To connect to someone whose identity and ideas and experience are different from yours. If you choose to be afraid, to hate someone for being different, that is your weakness, not theirs.
And if you are in a position of leadership, and choose not to make the effort to understand your constituents, you are the most vile, brittle kind of weakling. The @RonDeSantisFL and @GregAbbott_TX types are choosing to divide—and choosing to hurt people—because it’s convenient.
