This train - like yesterday’s - is pretty packed. Groups of kids mainly, off to some summer camp. I’ve luckily found a quiet seat at the very end of the train!
Only disappointment in these new Stadler trains in Slovenia: the interior is quite bland and not especially well designed. What’s this table actually for? The windows also have these chunky rubber edges. How much more would it be to make these like the @sob_ch Voralpen trains?
And it’s another charming line. Villages, fields, hills, forest. There’d be business in tourist trains - see Slovenia by train in 5 days or something like that. It’s so nice.
If you must run a diesel train, this is how to design them - the Stadler way. The motor is in the short power pack (towards the end of the video). This means the passenger cabins are super quiet and vibration free - no motor under the floor as in other DMUs
The Ljubljana - Metlika line. A stork is unperturbed by the train. A neatly turned out station manager. And a passing train in the other direction.
A few pics from yesterday between Nova Gorica and Sežana
Slovenian rail staff have impeccable and very retro outfits!
Metlika. It’s like a proper border station. It’s even got flags! The problem: it’s not got any international trains any more…
OMG. The track at Bubnjarci, Croatian side 🤯
The rail bridge Bubnjarci 🇭🇷 - Metlika 🇸🇮
A fence across the lines in the middle of the bridge, and tracks very overgrown. Nothing has run here for some time! #crossborderrail
So long Bubnjarci. No train so it’s bike to Karlovac.
When in Karlovac…
Approaching town feels like going through a small version of Novi Beograd
Today’s Birdy pic. Ozalj 🇭🇷
Quality track
Waiting room
I’ve been diligently writing postcards. But finding stamps to send them… well not quite so good! Off go 8 cards - 4 to @AdinaValean and 4 to supporters of #CrossBorderRail from Karlovac 🇭🇷
Rail in Croatia makes me sad. Karlovac is a nice old Austro-Hungarian era station. But no one has paid any attention to it for 3 decades…
I think this one was originally blue?
Apart from the livery I’m back in Sweden
Nice font
Karlovac hasn’t changed much since 1921

4001 17:37 Karlovac - Zagreb Gl K 18:29
Ave speed: 95 km/h
Operator: HŽPP
Why do rail companies do rubbish like this? I’m on a @renfe train but with a DB reservation. You need a ticket number to get on the on board wifi, and none of the numbers on the DB ticket work 🤦♂️
