At his confirmation hearing, Steve Dettelbach claimed that “politics can play no role in law enforcement.” However, Dettelbach’s past actions give this statement no credibility, and indeed suggest the opposite.

As a US Attorney, Dettelbach wrote an op-ed calling for gun control. At his hearing, he defended such behavior as ethical and indicated he would do it again if confirmed.

This is even more concerning given that Dettelbach has called for infringements such as the reinstatement of the unconstitutional and expired so-called “assault weapons” ban.

Surprisingly, at his confirmation hearing, Dettelbach was unable to even define what he believes an “assault weapon” is, despite advocating to ban them.

This repetition of the vague term “Assault Weapon” shows how his actions will not be informed by facts or the law but instead by whatever anti-constitutional activists dictate. These #guncontrol measures are dangerous & do nothing to alleviate crime &* instead infringe on the #2A

Steve Dettelbach also acknowledged that ATF’s maintenance of a federal gun registry would be illegal but has offered no plan for dismantling ATF’s existing illegal national gun registry or halting its expansion with ATF’s latest rule change ATF2021R-05F.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives has been weaponized against millions of gun owners across America. Steve Dettelbach shows no signs that he will provide a check against this agencies’ rogue actions, and instead he will push his own radical anti-2A beliefs.

ATF Director nominee Steve Dettelbach has never owned a gun, has used his public office to advocate for infringements on our members’ constitutional rights, and was unable to even define the term “assault weapon” despite calling for such a ban.

Congress must not elevate Steve Dettelbach to a position where he will abuse his regulatory authority and bring great harm to gun owners around the country.

Gun Owners of America is calling on the United States Senate to vote against Steve Dettelbach for Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

GOA will score votes in favor of Steve Dettelbach as anti-gun votes.
