A brief grammar lesson for those who are in apparent need of such:

In simplest terms, it means unequivocally that the US Government (and, by extension, State Governments) are expressly prohibited from making any general laws to limit, undermine, or otherwise encroach upon the public's #ConstitutionalRight to own and use firearms.

This article stems from a previous thread of mine that I decided to develop a bit more, and here are the broad findings and what five German-American translations might tell us about original public understanding of the Second Amendment:
1. Even scholars who argue "collectivist/civic obligation" have noted that "well regulated" at the time meant "in good working order," not government oversight. The German translations (and original public understanding) confirm this.

1/ In an exchange with some religious authorities of his day (Pharisees), Jesus was accused of breaking Jewish law about the Sabbath when he and his disciples were picking grain.

Just to be clear, when President Trump says "your 2nd Amendment", he means white people.
The second amendment states "the right of the people to keep and bear arms...". This amendment was passed in 1791 and Article I Section II of the US Constitution (ratified just three years prior - June 1788) defines the term "people" as white men.

I wrote a long scholarly bio of Sandra Day O'Connor and RBG, Sisters in Law. Although most of the attention has been focused on Ginsburg, actually SOC tells the more relevant story in today's #Kavanaugh times. 1/
2/ SOC was always an odd fit; a symbolic powerhouse first woman on the Supreme Court, or the FWOTSC, as she called herself. She was technically supportive of abortion rights and voting w/ RBG on most women's cases at #SCOTUS, including in 1986 a vote for harassment victim Vinson
3/ but SOC was also a lifelong #Republican and an operative at that -- committeewoman, nominated to her first office by the #GOP committee, mentored by Barry Goldwater, William Rehnquist and Warren Burger were her sponsors on the #SCOTUS.
Here’s where most reasonable people start w/ #guns: they’re only as deadly as the person who holds them. Millions use guns for hunting or target practice safely every day. Yet we cannot escape the fact that their sole design is to cause harm. This makes them worthy of scrutiny.
There are degrees of harm any #gun can cause. Hunting rifles (7mm, .300) are deadly but their scale of death is limited as compared to semi/automatic rifles. Pistols fall somewhere in the middle. So let’s give semi/auto rifles particular scrutiny.
Semi/automatic (S/A) rifles have no practical utility beyond maximizing death. They may be used for hunting but not by reasonable hunters who want meat. S/A guns are either weapons of war or used for thrill. The question: should we find other thrills given use in civilian deaths?
