A new group called the "People's Union of Gagauzia" has been founded in response to rising gas prices and regional instability in #Gagauzia & #Moldova. The group was founded after intense anti-government protests across Gagauzia this past weekend
The purpose of the group is to "protect the rights and freedoms of Gagauzia and its inhabitants" and to strengthen the role of the autonomous region in solving issues at the national level.
The group also states that it wants to "develop good relations with the historical friends of the Gagauz people- Russia and other countries from the Eurasian Economic Union"
A large "bicycle protest" is planned in Gagauzia this weekend, and it likely this newly formed People's Union of Gagauzia will play a central role in organizing this protest, as well as future ones

The leader of the newly formed People's Union of #Gagauzia, Viktor Petrov (thread on him coming later) just gave a lengthy and very revealing speech 👇
At the beginning of his speech, Petrov took a page out of the 1990s playbook, and claimed that the Russian speaking population of Gagauzia were suffering from vicious "Romanianization"
He criticised the authorities for pulling #Moldova closer to #NATO & #EU which would ultimately violate the countries sovereignty & neutrality. Unsurprisingly, he called for Moldova to have closer ties with its historic friend: #Russia
Today, the Republic of #Moldova marks National Flag day, which commorates the day the Soviet era flag was replaced by the traditional tricolour.
A thread on how the adoption of the new flag was received in #Transnistria 👇
The passing of the tricolour was a contentious issue at the time. In the cities of Tiraspol, Bender, and Rîbnița the flag was labelled a "fascist symbol" due to its similarities with the Romanian flag
The City authorities in Tiraspol, Bender, and Rîbnița moved quickly to outlaw it 👇
