A thread. 1/ Here’s my prediction for Liz Truss’ tenure as leader of the Conservatives (I’ll not legitimize her role as PM because she wasn’t voted to be so by the country). She won’t last til the next election. The Tories are in real trouble. External world pressures and events
2/ mean they cannot get out of the shit they have created, which has been exacerbated by the Brexit debacle. They have no answer to the cost of living crisis, food and fuel poverty, and the myriad of other issues facing a growing but now significant percentage of the population
3/ It is against their politics to worry about such people. Leveling up is a catchphrase only. To actually do so would demand policies they are just not interested in enacting. If they were they would have done so sometime in the last 12 years - 12 years in which millions of us
4/ have borne the ravages brought on by austerity. There are a lot of very angry people now, supportive of a growing wave of industrial action because we’ve had it with being told to take it on the chin, when we know their Tory mates, donors, and the rich keep getting richer.
5/ This is a political landscape Truss’ intellect is wholly inadequate for. She is already misreading the temperature of the nation, threatening to punish Unions whilst most fair minded people are supporting their fight for high wage rises. She is no Johnson, and despite her
6/cos play she is no Thatcher either. She is a political lightweight, albeit supported by the ERG who will control her like a puppet in all she does. She will be shafted every week at the dispatch box by Starmer whose forensic questioning will now not be met by the arrogant
7/bombasity of Johnson but by someone who will flounder against his pin point PMQs. And the country will continue to slide, as Brexit hardens into the millstone it always was going to be, more and more sleaze and cronyism is uncovered, and there will be no answer to the poverty
8/ that will see the poor, weak, and infirm die over the next two winters, with an NHS on its knees unable to save them. This blood will be on the Tories hands. Having been in government herself for so long she will be rightly vilified for being part of the apparatus that has
9/ caused the misery. The amount of ammunition against her is vast and she will be pilloried constantly by all the opposition parties for her part in it. She is too much of a lightweight to survive that onslaught. Her ratings, if she has any, will drop like a stone as we head for
10/ the election. She will be got rid of. And my bombshell further prediction - another leadership contest will happen just before the election and who will be on the ticket by one Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson, who will be reinstalled as party leader, as the Tories futile,
11/ last desperate attempt to connect again with the Conservative red meat, Gammonati. So enjoy your short time at the top, Lizzie girl. Your ignominious reign and demise on the Brexit pyre that has already claimed 3 other PMs will mark you out as the lickspittle, snollygoster
