How did cats come to live with humans? By all logical observation, these independent creatures shouldn’t be in our homes, but they are.
There are 7 main reasons.
Let’s find out on The Super Awesome Science Thread.
#TSAT A cat looking up at the camera
1. Nearly 100,000 years ago ancient cats watched the advanced primates who scurried around the Middle East with a mild curiosity, but stayed out of their way. These primates were smart and could catch and eat them. It would have stayed this way except for this: grain.
2. The end of the ice age allowed humans to turn from sketchy hunters into farmers. Still cats were wary. The grain and crops humans grew that was stored for later became a target for an annoying creature from India. The house mouse. The plot thickens. A cat outside by somekind of weird plant things. She is on
3. Over the next 10,000 years the cats who were decent at catching mice, but also had less stress hormones allowed them to be bold and calm around humans had a great chance of survival. Natural selection had a purrfect time to occur.
4. This type of cat began to look different and act different than the other species of wildcats. The key thing here is humans didn’t breed this type of cat. The cat domesticated itself over time. A cat outside on a log in a very majestic and striking pose.
5. As trade picked up, “cats” hitched a ride on ships and in carts and moved rapidly around Asia and parts of Africa. It is at this point the Egyptians took notice of the cat. Quickly the cat went from surprise helper, friend, pet, and then finally god. A cat on a rock with a setting sun behind her.
6. Why did humans care about the cat so much? Psychologists have interesting theories. A cat weighs the same as new baby, and has giant eyes, like a baby. Holding a cat is the perfect size for a human baby and it creates a bond and nurturing affect. Cats = Baby A cat in safety glasses. She is f-cking adorable.
7. Years marched on an the scientific evidence of having a cat in the house being a good thing is a done deal. Cats lower stress, heart rate, anxiety, and more. They have mostly moved on from vermin catching days and lounge full time.
It’s ok.
They’ve earned it.

Someone needs to make an app where if you say, “I feel sad”, you get sent a picture of a dog or cat instantly. A Berner tilting his head looking at you
And it overrides your phone so you can’t do anything else until you stare at it and say something like “oh who’s a precious little cutie.” or something. It’s a baby golden retriever sitting by flowers with a bow
Like you can’t use twitter, or your mail or anything. Also if you are on desktop, it does the same thing. It doesn’t matter if you are in a meeting or giving a presentation at the UN, you have to look at the dog or cat and say something like “what a pretty kitty” to unlock it A cat sitting outside staring at birds don’t worry she has

The disease in question is Crohn’s Disease (CD). CD causes inflammatory bowel issues like pain, bloody diarrhea, fever, and other awfulness. It can also cause secondary issues like rashes and fatigue.
It’s nasty and if you suffer from it, we are so sorry.
Presented at Digestive Disease Week were findings that kids who lived with dogs (but not cats) had a more heathy gut outcomes, all of which protect against the onset of Crohn’s Disease. A boy going to pet a little tiny golden retrieverA group of students sitting on the floor petting the dog nam

Guess what?
It’s not great to lie to dogs AND dogs know when you humans are lying to us!
Let’s break it down on:
THE SUPER AWESOME SCIENCE THREAD!

If you thought you could lie to dogs you’d be forgetting that we can SMELL your emotions.
Humans give of Volatile Organic Compounds when they are happy, sad, or stressed. We can smell them. The best of us are trained to react to them as therapy/service dogs.

Researchers in Japan asked the question- will a dog be skeptical of an untrustworthy human, or blindly follow commands.
They had 34 dogs in this study and in the first round, a human truthfully pointed at where a favourite toy or treat was.
The dogs obviously loved this round.

Why is the photo from the JWST so profound?
Let’s talk about it in
THE
SUPER
AWESOME
SCIENCE
THREAD!
#TSAST
1. DISTANCE
The photo is of galaxies a long time ago and far, far away.
Since space is so big, distances are measured in light years. Light travels 5.88 trillion miles in a year. The galaxies used to make the image are 4.6 billion light years away. 4.6b x 5.88t miles = 🤯 Photo of the JWST deep field
2. TIME
The galaxy cluster the telescope aimed at BENT the light around them due to their gravity and it has magnified EVEN more ancient stuff behind them.
13 billion years ancient actually.
13 000 000 000 years old.
It’s a number so hard to wrap your head around.
