I'm also not a big fan of positioning players near the goal posts.
It's classic loss aversion bias. Yes, there are instances where a goal can be prevented that way, but I feel the loss of possible gain is way bigger, since the players are missing elsewhere.
And don't even get me started on this.
Sacrificing a player just to prevent the very unlikely scenario that a free kick goal is scored below the defensive wall is ridiculous.
Imagine what this player can do instead. Like being ready for a counter attack.
Loss aversion bias is such a huge topic in football.
It starts with so many teams trying to secure a draw, even though a victory gets awarded 3 points instead of just 1.
Time to go back in time. This thread shows the football teams who collected the most points for the UEFA country ranking since season 1955/56, in the last 67 years (!)
First the overall ranking, then I'll provide the stats for the big nations 👇👇👇
OVERALL RANKING
Real Madrid has clearly been the most successful football club in the last 67 years.
Over 150 points collected overall, this is insane.
Bayern and Benfica complete the podium. Also in top 10: Manchester United, Barca, Juventus, Ajax, Porto, Milan, Dynamo Kyiv
1. 🇪🇸ESP: 469 points
Spain has clearly been the most successful football nation in the last 67 years.
Shining beacon is Real Madrid, but FC Barcelona and Atlético Madrid did also contribute their fair share.
🏅WINNERS🏅
🇳🇴NOR +0.75
Norway is an unstoppable force this season.
Another 3 victories added this week, stunning! Bodø/Glimt marches towards #UCL, Molde cruses in #UECL qualifiers and Viking wipes away Sligo Rovers 5-1.
Only downside is the loss of Lillestrøm vs. Antwerp
🇮🇱ISR +0.75
Perfect week for Israel! 3 teams left, 3 victories.
Beer-Sheva was merciless in Lugano 😒Maccabi Tel-Aviv with an impressive 2-0 against Aris and Maccabi Haifa looks destined to go to #UCL with a 4-0 victory against Apollon.
Who is going to win the league, and who is going to be relegated? Over 60 Swiss football lovers have made yet a season prediction in our new guessing game. The results contain a few surprises.
The prediction of SwissFootyBot is based on our own prediction model, which takes into account almost 2'000 Super League matches.
But I'm sure you know better, right? Best three players can win 200 CHF. Good luck!
First predictions in. That was fast 😮
FC Basel gets more credit, that was expected. The model probably underestimates the Sforza factor, but we will see. Maybe there is a Degen factor, too 😂
Will be interesting to see the averages at the end...
