Doug Jones: I want to make sure people understand: There's nothing to indicate the Justice Dept is going after the former president; they're going after a potential crime.

Doug Jones: There was enough evidence that developed on a potential crime--we don't know what it is yet but there's talk of federal documents--and an agent put together the evidence in an affidavit. The info, incl probable cause, was taken to a judge. (con't)

Doug Jones: (con't) The DOJ couldn't do it on their own--they need approval from a separate branch of gov't. This is very serious. The gov't takes top secret documents very seriously; this could be an effort just to recover federal documents.

Doug Jones: You can be sure Merrick Garland knew this would be politicized & used for fundraising. What surprised me were the muted voices out there--there are Repubs out there who are keeping their powder dry b/c they know this is a serious situation.

Doug Jones: I think most people are a little relieved that there IS an investigation going on. They want people to follow the law; they want to know no one is above the law; they don't want the Dept of Justice to be a political issue.

Doug Jones: It's ironic the people screaming the loudest used to be the party that supported the police no matter what.
Rick: They're against criming until it's their criming that's being investigated/prosecuted.

Doug Jones: Repubs don't like the IRS. They don't think they should have to pay their fair share; they don't want the wealthy or the corporations to be investigated because that's their bread & butter. Comey & McCabe were both investigated by the IRS.

Doug Jones: Remember that if some of the reporting is correct, this is about top secret documents & presidential documents that are being hidden or destroyed. Secret Service agents improperly deleted text msgs. We've seen photos of torn documents stuffed in toilets.

Doug Jones: Agents have been down there before, looking for documents. There is a chance that they were mislead, and that could be a crime, too.

Doug Jones: It is illegal to conceal, mutilated, hide these documents. The very people complaining about it have had it on the books for years. Trump thought that as Pres, he was above the law, same as Nixon did.

Doug: We need to come together; we need a national purpose, a reason for unity. You would have thought that COVID would have done it but it became political. You would have thought Ukraine would have done it but it became political. Jan 6 did it, for about 18 hours.

Doug Jones: People are concerned about the deficit, & rightly so. The tax cut bill Trump did contributed enormously to the deficit. Who's reducing that deficit? Joe Biden & the Democrats.

Doug Jones: If Trump had done anything close to what Joe Biden & the Dems have done, he'd still be Pres. Today the CHIPS Bill was signed.
Rick: CHIPS will help us rebuild manufacturing, rebuild our communities, job security. That's enormously important.
