Good morning everyone in #cdnpoli who's about to read this thread and learn about an #NDP antisemitism scandal involving @MPJulian.
On August 11, @jonkay posted about an account (variably @Laith_Marouf and @MaroufLaith) posting vile and violent antisemitic content. He asked why this content isn't prohibited on twitter.
On August 12th, we did what any hacky political account would do - we sent a message to the #NDP Critic for Heritage, the vocally anti-racist @MPJulian. Why? It's his job to keep the government accountable on this file, and this is a surefire crisis.
On August 16, after four days of studiously ignoring the fact that @CdnHeritage is paying $400+ a day to an individual who's actively calling for the murder of Jews, @MPJulian retweets someone complimenting his anti-racist bonafides. We call it out.
Here's the thing. This isn't an awareness problem. For the four days Aug 12, when we raised it with him, to when he blocked us on Aug 16, he received just three public messages.
He also received 32 mentions (4 of which were us) across the four days - that's just eight a day. Not an overwhelming number, especially because there's evidence via his retweets that he was online at least once a day.
Even if you accept that he somehow missed all of our first three messages, he blocked us on the last one, so it's plain he's aware of the issue at @CdnHeritage.
@MPJulian is a formidable politician. He's been around a long time, and he's very effective at holding the government to account.
What's more, not only is @MPJulian an avowed anti-racist working on hate legislation (per his retweet of the below tweet), he's also the #NDP Critic for Heritage.
Taking the government to account over financing the indoctrination of public servants in antisemitism is his job.
But he hasn't said anything. Even after having blocked us for calling him out a fourth time (fair play, we are unfunny and annoying), he hasn't condemned this @CdnHeritage contract. He's had all the time in the world to do so. He
Perhaps, as the he himself has said, silence is support.
We ask the public - why hasn't @MPJulian done his job and condemned the $400+/day antiracism training contract between @CdnHeritage and a man who's called for the violent execution of Jews?

How is it that the only federal leader or leadership candidate that's said anything about Rushdie is Trudeau?
Awfully disappointed in the CPC benches.
For all the bleating about authoritarian wokes, one would think that the Iran-sanctioned-and-encouraged attempted murder of a novelist would be something to stand up against.
Naturally, nothing from Singh either, but one suspects he'd probably place the blame for getting stabbed on Rushdie himself.
The disinterest of the @CPC_HQ in creating a formal HR pipeline that 1) hires & trains political staff so that they are successful in their jobs, and 2) supports their exit from politics into the private sector is one of the primary reasons why we're almost always in opposition.
Here's an experiment - hop on LinkedIn, start trawling the profiles of Canadian executives and senior leadership teams. Note how many of them, when you dig deep enough, have a stint with the Liberal Party in their job description. Do the same for Conservatives.
The ratio of highly-placed Liberals to Conservatives is obscene. Whether it's a formal effort, or because success breeds success, former Liberal staffers are everywhere, and you better believe that makes a difference.
