Staff returned to their offices this morning to find that the Israeli military had welded shut the office doors, preventing anyone from going in. These are vital community organizations that serve Palestinian children, families, and human rights defenders.
The 7 groups under attack have documented countless Israeli human rights violations, from torture in Israeli prisons, to illegal home demolitions, & extreme settler violence—now, they’re being forced to respond to the Israeli army's attacks on them too.
For decades, Israel has obstructed the work of Palestinian human rights orgs in clear violation of international law. By targeting Palestinians advocating for human rights, the Israeli government is trying to avoid accountability for their daily violence against Palestinians.
Last month, @RepPressley, @RepRashida, @RepAOC, @Ilhan, and 18 other Members of Congress sent a letter urgingthe Biden Administration to reject Israel’s targeting of Palestinian human rights organizations and speak out against efforts to silence their work.
These attacks are an alarming escalation of Israel’s crackdown on human rights. Silencing human rights defenders puts millions of Palestinians at risk. Everyone should be concerned that Israel is blocking Palestinians from speaking out against Israel's violence. #StandWithThe6

THREAD: Just days after Israel bombed their neighborhoods, children in Gaza now have to start school.
On Aug 5, the Israeli military began bombing Gaza, one of the most densely populated places in the world, targeting neighborhoods and apartment buildings with families and children inside.
During Israel’s attack, at least 49 Palestinians were killed, including 17 children.
Now, children in Gaza have to start school while mourning 17 of their classmates, in addition to the 64 children Israel killed during its massacre in Gaza last year.
Gaza is a tiny strip of land in Palestine, home to more than 2 million Palestinians.
Most are refugees from Palestinian cities and towns in what became Israel. Palestinians (and their descendants) who were driven from their homes when Israel forced ¾ of the Palestinian population off their land in 1948.
Since 1967 Palestinians in Gaza have lived under brutal Israeli military rule. This means the Israeli government controls most aspects of their lives while denying them the right to vote and all other rights people take for granted.
THREAD: Here’s what journalists need to know when covering Israel’s latest attack on #Gaza:
1) Palestinians in Gaza live under a brutal, illegal, 15-year-long siege, where Israel has limited Palestinians’ access to electricity, clean drinking water, and life-saving medical treatment.
2) Israel has one of the most powerful militaries in the world and is attacking a largely defenseless, entrapped civilian population in one of the most densely populated places in the world.
THREAD: Ben & Jerry’s has been in a legal battle with its parent company, Unilever, to keep its ice cream sales off land Israel stole from Palestinians.
This Monday, Ben & Jerry’s is taking Unilever to court to uphold the company’s social justice values.
In 2021, Ben & Jerry’s decided to stop selling ice cream in illegal Israeli settlements, on Palestinian land Israel stole. The company said that selling Ben & Jerry’s ice cream there was “inconsistent” with its values.
In response, its parent company, Unilever, undermined both its contract with Ben & Jerry’s, and Ben & Jerry’s principled decision to stand for Palestinian freedom, by planning to continue the sale of the brand’s ice cream on stolen Palestinian land.
THREAD: After finally meeting with the Abu Akleh family today, @SecBlinken has yet to commit to holding a US investigation into the Israeli murder of their family member, Palestinian American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.
The family has been pushing for the US to hold Israel accountable for killing Shireen for over two months. The Abu Akleh family has been clear that a transparent and thorough US investigation is the very first step towards accountability and justice for Shireen.
Though they met with @SecBlinken today, the Abu Akleh family is still waiting for meaningful action from the US and continuing to demand a meeting with @POTUS to ensure that achieving justice for Shireen is a priority.
