While having certs, home lab experience and a blog will get you noticed, a degree can be of value due to the following reasons:
1. It required you to show up, work with others, complete work/projects and it develops soft skills that you wouldn’t get working by yourself.
2. It holds more weight in some places.
If you chose to obtain a job using your home lab skills, blogs and certs as experience, there are some things to consider:
1. When posting blogs, home lab content, etc. keep in mind that a recruiter or hiring manager is not only looking if you posted something, but they are looking to see if it’s of value and If the content is accurately explained. So know your stuff!
2. Find somewhere to build your soft skills. You can volunteer at a con, develop a project with a group of individuals or snag a gig in customer service to develop that craft. Help desk is a good place to start.
3. Have a good reputation. Ask yourself, who can vouch for you? My sponsor always says, “It’s not always about who you know, it’s about who knows you and trusts you.” Having a bad rep in this industry can be a career limiting move for you, so just keep that in mind.
Closing Statements: 1. It’s gonna take work. If it was easy, everybody would be doing it. 2. This field is too competitive, so be patient if you get the gif right away. 3. Know your craft in the off season. You never know when you will get that call. So be ready.
4. If you don’t get the gig after the interview, figure out why and work on it.

This is one of the first things companies check for once resumes hit the desk. They looking for geeks, not folks who just looking for a check. A digital footprint is putting your skills on display. So instead of you geeking all in the recruiters dms, with the right post and
