For our full statement please head to the link in our bio. We stand with Deputy Prime Minister Freeland, her staff and all women in politics and public roles who have been subject to unjust threats and harassment #cdnpoli#ChrystiaFreeland
Days ago while on a visit back to her home province, Minister Freeland and her staff were verbally harassed and threatened. #cdnpoli#ChrystiaFreeland
Rage, fear & hopelessness are all feelings that our board have felt in response because this experience is one that reflects our own & that of many women in politics & public facing roles & especially resonates with women of colour #cdnpoli
Women in politics continue to be underrepresented but overexposed to harassment. #cdnpoli#ChrystiaFreeland
In 2021, the Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters (ACWS) published the results of their investigation into the experiences and perceptions of individuals who ran in the 2017 municipal elections. Key findings included:
Women were four times more likely than men to note the overall tone of the election as mostly negative or sometimes negative. #yegcc#cdnpoli
Women respondents were four times more likely than men to report that the nature of criticisms received was always or almost always focused on themselves as opposed to their political platform #yegcc#cdnpoli
Women were three times more likely than men to report experiencing repeated discriminatory interactions with at least one individual, group, or media outlet #yegcc#cdnpoli
63% of women respondents reported at least one misogynistic or discriminatory attack, with 43% reporting this as a regular occurrence #yegcc#cdnpoli#abpoli
ACWS used this data to develop the Women in Politics Power and Control Wheel (2021) to represent the breadth of tactics of violence directed towards women in the political sphere #cdnpoli#abpoli#yegcc

Last night, @gisellegeneral requested a list of inexpensive or free businesses and resources for candidates who are looking to keep moving their campaigns forward, even if money is tight right now.
Graphic design: Canva for social media and Venngage for infographics. Both have free versions with some limitations.
Social media management: Hootsuite is most popular, and at $30/month for the entry level version, not too pricey. Buffer is also reasonable ($15/month) and Later is free, but we don't have as much experience with these two platforms, so let us know how they are if you use them!
