A common misconception is the US gov's interest in UAP's/UFO's stopped after Blue Book ended. No, just the purely PR side stopped. Sightings explicitly impacting National Security were still handled as usual:

There are two hands with stuff like this, like a magic show. The left hand says "nope there is no value here at all" while the right hand simultaneously says "this impacts NatSec; need to continue studying". The left hand was purely for PR purposes.

The real sighting reports fed to Blue Book would be quickly funneled to various classified channels, which would be further investigated. This entirely corrupted the final conclusions of Blue Book & the Condon Report. Blue Book's Signal to Noise ratio was purposely trashed.

In the late 1950's the most sensitive sightings were funneled to the CIA and handled specially by virtually untraceable CIA officers, such as Oscar W. Wolff ("Kewper").

Puthoff has a high security clearance (he said so in this video), and he stated "there were programs going on behind the scenes". Yes.

Some very intelligent people concocted this systematic effort to discredit the subject (see the book ref). It ultimately resulted in damage to NatSec because now nobody has any idea how to handle this subject. The Nimitz event was *18 years ago* and we are still clueless.
