1/ The Interchain Foundation (ICF) is a key contributor to the Cosmos ecosystem. Its work in shaping a new technological paradigm must be known to all Cosmonauts.
2/ In its own words, as stewards of the interchain, the ICF supports the creation of an interoperable, sustainable, and community-owned decentralised ecosystem.
It does this through funding, development, and assistance of teams that enable the Internet of Blockchains.
3/ In a nutshell, the ICF core team maintains the Cosmos Hub, Cosmos SDK, CosmWasm, CosmJS, IBC, and the Tendermint consensus.
However, the ICF operates multiple other programs and initiatives, nurturing the ecosystem towards greatness.
4/ From a corporate POV, the ICF is a Swiss non-profit, which owns Interchain GmbH, a Berlin-based subsidiary that employs a stellar team of Cosmos contributors.
The Foundation has a razor thin team of champions. Core members of the ICF include @buchmanster and @crainbf.
5/ Let's take a closer look at the ICF's initiatives - Builders, Academy, Advocacy, Investments, Grants, Interchain Security, Delegations, and more.
Yes, there's a lot. Strap in!
6/ The Builders Program - an ICF initiative that provides mentorship and networking opportunities.
It supports builders sold on the Cosmos vision which are keen to play their role in creating a more vibrant, collaborative, and resilient interchain economy. Free to join!
7/ The Builders Program brings together entrepreneurs, engineers, designers, advocates, and other contributors that assist teams in navigating the Cosmos web, surpassing roadblocks.
The offering is exceptional, with support offered across all verticals.
8/ It's basically a one-stop-shop to building in the #CosmosEcosystem, with all resources put at the disposal of teams that are selected.
More details on the program are available in a recent talk by @onurakpolat.
A deep dive into the Builders Program is coming soon.
11/ The Interchain Developer Academy - an ICF initiative that guides developers through the Cosmos tech stack.
Starting on the 15th of Sep, the Academy is a self-paced, 7-week program that covers everything Cosmos: SDK, Tendermint, IBC, Ignite CLI, CosmJS, relayers, and nodes.
12/ The Academy is also fully-funded by the ICF, thus free to successful applicants. By the end of the program, devs should be familiar with the tech stack and ready to better the ecosystem.
You also get an official certification from the ICF!
13/ The Advocacy Initiative - Collaborating with policymakers for a friendlier #Web3 environment.
Advocacy initiatives provide builders with legal clarity, which in turn, allows on-chain public goods to thrive, protecting the sovereignty of crypto stakeholders.
14/ The ICF therefore supports several advocacy groups, including the Blockchain Association, Coin Center, the European Crypto Initiative (EUCI), the Proof of Stake Alliance, and the Canadian Web3 Council (@web3canada), spearheaded by @jelenaaa____.
15/ Let's take a look at the ICF's grants and investments.
The Interchain Foundation funds projects that expand the ecosystem, developing strategic niches that add value to the interchain economy.
16/ Their recent thesis listed privacy, anonymity, cryptography, scalability, VMs, bridges, peg zones, social goods, growth, and adoption as initiatives the ICF invests in.
18/ The Interchain Foundation is also known for its Grants program, albeit not actively deploying at this moment due to market conditions which require risk-off treasury management.
Multiple projects that have received financial support from the ICF have been successful.
19/ The recipients of ICF funding back in 2019 are listed in this yearly review. Most of these initiatives are still going strong to this day.
21/ @interchain_io is also a core contributor to Interchain Security. A thread about ICS and its benefit to the ecosystem will be released soon, but until then, here's @informalinc's take on it.
22/ The ICF Delegations Policy - supporting value-add validators.
More recently, #Cosmonauts far and wide have started discussing the ICF's delegation policy. The ELI5 is that the ICF has $ATOM which it delegates to strategic validators as a thank you for their support.
23/ As stated by the Foundation, it wants to recognise, empower, and reward validators that offer value on engineering, public goods, and community.
The policy is being restructured to better reward value-add and monitor validators.
24/ A draft of the new delegation policy has been published.
The TL;DR is that the ICF will delegate 70% of its 14M $ATOM to validators that fulfil the criteria. New delegations occur bi-yearly, staking rewards are kept liquid, but the optionality to redelegate is retained.
25/ The new delegation policy can be reviewed here, as it awaits community feedback:
👉 Attends conferences like Consensus & @CosmoverseHQ
👉 Publishes educational content
👉 Works on new features that benefit the Cosmos
👉 Started the Earth Program & Sustainability Mission
27/ That's a wrap, everyone! Enjoyed this thread about the Interchain Foundation?

1/ In Cosmos, we like governance. But while casting votes is fun, working for a DAO is better.
Here’s how to get funded and become a cosmic DAOist 🧵⬇️
2/ You can’t be everywhere, so you first gotta choose your first project, ideally in your favourite vertical.
Consider:
👉🏼 Your skills - tech or non-tech?
👉🏼 Your wants - money, network, fame, intel, exp
👉🏼 The vibes - some make governance fun, others are make-believe.
3/ It’s known that @JunoNetwork’s sub-DAOs will be big!
