Being back in Parliament has been really helpful in our campaign to Keep @DSA_Airport open. This is a long post but one with reason for real hope and optimism.
It’s given me the opportunity to meet again with the Aviation Minister @robertcourts and discuss the situation with him. I’ve been hoping that Robert is not moved in any reshuffle and to date it looks that he will remain in post.
.@robertcourts has been really helpful to date & has really impressed me with his attention to detail and his motivation to work with @olivercoppard to keep @DSA_Airport open.
On Wednesday it was PMQs and I was able to speak in the Chamber.
My ask of the PM and Govt remains the same. I want them to help me to persuade @olivercoppard and John Whittaker to meet. They have the powers, the duties & the responsibilities to our region as well as Doncaster to do the right thing.
I was therefore surprised by the reaction of @olivercoppard to this. His response on 07.09.22 on Twitter (no equivalent post on Facebook) can be found here:
I don’t think @olivercoppard has properly understood what I am seeking. I am not attacking him nor am I attacking Peel Holdings. I simply wish them to meet, do the right thing and agree terms to keep @DSA_Airport open.
There is much going on here at my end. I will always do what I can but I don’t have the devolved powers and the funds that go with them. It’s the two people at the business end where it matters. 🧵 #SaveDSA#Doncasterisgreat 10/12
It’s down to John Whittaker to do the right thing. Make @DSA_Airport a success or allow someone else to do so. It’s down to @olivercoppard to have a viable plan for the short medium and long term to keep the airport open.
The campaign continues. The deadline expires a week tomorrow. 8 days. So I call on @olivercoppard and John Whittaker to reach an agreement that keeps @DSA_Airport open. That would be a fine legacy to be remembered by.
A legacy that strengthens the local economy and provides a springboard to boost our region into a prosperous future.

I spoke in Parliament today to ask the Government to hold a debate on the international socialist concept of so called 15 minute cities and 20 minute neighbourhoods.
Ultra Low Emission Zones (ULEZ) in their present format do untold economic damage to any city. However the second step after ULEZ is this so called 15 minute cities or 20 minute neighbourhoods.
I did an apprenticeship. I have also employed many apprentices over my working life and it’s a joy seeing their skills progress and watching them progress as individuals too.
This week I met with @GillianKeegan the Secretary of State for Education to press the case for apprenticeships. Being on the @CommonsEd has enabled me to raise questions of her before.
Cancer affects us all. In particular breast cancer affects far too many women. Please check yourself for anything unusual and if you’re worried then seek advice from @BreastCancerNow and your GP. 🧵2/4
As Chair of the @APPGMenBoys (All Party Parliamentary Group for Issues affecting Men and Boys) I have also become very aware of @ProstateUK and how prostate cancer affects so many men. 33 men die every day. 🧵3/4
I am meeting the Home Secretary @SuellaBraverman this evening. I have made it very clear that I fully support the Government in using the full extent of the law to stop these small boats. 🧵1/6
I can assure you that my Conservative colleagues have the same view as me on this. It is unacceptable for economic migrants to jump the queue and then claim asylum and be fed and housed whilst their claims are investigated. 🧵2/6
My day started with preparation for the weekly zoom meeting for all MPs hosted by @olivercoppard . It’s held at 10 am on a Friday to brief all MPs as to latest developments on @DSA_Airport & @PeelLandP .
It’s an opportunity to ask questions re @DSA_Airport and to probe to try to find out what’s going on. The meeting started shortly after 10 and was stopped shortly after 11. Some people had other commitments so couldn’t stay past 10.30 am.
I wanted to know why @MayorRos had said the bid out to @PeelLandP was credible and why Peel said it wasn’t. There was a detailed explanation given by the CEO of @MyDoncaster about it.
