As there is no purpose, no meaning, no goal, no separation, nothing to attain or lose, everything is mystery and unknowable in non-duality as described by many non-dual teachers/speakers, how non-duality is similar/different to/from nihilism?

Nihilism is the rational conclusion of the mind regarding the existence as it perceives.

This nihilism is still short of one important step.

If it says that this mind is also vanity, then the perception of vanity by vanity would have no value of truth. It is like words written in water.

If it says that this mind alone is real, and everything else is nihilistic, that does not sound acceptable and rational. How could everything in existence be nihilistic, but only this evaluating mind be real?

That seems to be the fallacy.

This fallacy is addressed by Advaita which is loosely translated as non-duality.

Advaita first reflects on the mind that concludes that everything else is nihilistic. That sounds fair to me.

When the mind self-reflects on itself, it finds that it does not exist, and that it is just a phantom. Then it realises that it did not matter what this phantom’s opinions are.

Nihilism is the most rational evaluation of life by the mind. Advaita or nonduality is this pure awareness that sees that this evaluating mind and its isms do not exist.

Nihilism says that ‘I will die’. Advaita says that, ‘I am the Giant Eternal Blissful Awareness on which these dream “i”s seem to be rising and falling’.

That’s the difference., and it’s a huge one!
