147th Artillery Brigade: How Ukraineโs Armed Forces Transformed in 4 Years of War ๐งต
Four years after Russiaโs full-scale invasion, the story of one brigade shows how modern war โ and Ukraineโs military โ have evolved.
Meet the 147th Separate Artillery Brigade.๐
1/ Built in War. Deployed in Months.
Formed in August 2025 as part of Ukraineโs corps reform, the 147th became the first newly created artillery brigade to deploy at full strength.
By January โ fully operational.
No years of peacetime buildup.
Just months.
Thatโs wartime transformation.
2/ Part of a New Structure
The brigade belongs to the 7th Air Assault Corps.
This matters.
Instead of being loosely attached to units, artillery now supports its own corps โ with direct feedback, shared planning, and real-time coordination.
Ukraine shifted from Soviet-style fragmentation to NATO-style corps integration.
๐ฉ๐ช๐บ๐ฆFrom German Engineering to Battlefield Reality: Lessons from Wisent in Ukraine
When Germany delivered the Wisent engineering vehicle to Ukraine, it was more than equipment transfer. It was the beginning of a real-time learning cycle under combat conditions.๐งต๐
2 / Wisent โ based on the Leopard 1A platform โ is designed to restore mobility under fire. In Ukraine, that capability is tested daily.
โAs soon as we hit a minefield, Wisent goes first,โ says Oleksii, a Ukrainian instructor who trained in Germany.
โIt clears a path by pushing mines aside with its teeth. Then it reverses on its own tracks โ and armored vehicles follow.โ
3 / Lesson learned #1: Mobility is survival.
In modern warfare, breaching minefields quickly determines whether an assault succeeds or stalls under artillery and drone fire.
Wisent often works in tandem with the German Biber bridge-layer.
โIf thereโs a mined area and a trench or river ahead, Wisent clears the way. Then Biber deploys the bridge. Itโs teamwork,โ Oleksii explains.

Vadym is one of those who was trained in ๐ฉ๐ช and now destroys ๐ท๐บ missiles and drones with the help of the modern #IrisT system.
๐ธ Anastasia Olekhnovych.
1/
The ๐ฉ๐ช system is really modern, powerful and effective. Already during the first baptism of fire in October last year, the system shot down 100 percent โ of the targets, these are mostly cruise missiles, - says the anti-aircraft gunner.
2/
Our "#BukM1" destroyed 10 ๐ท๐บ targets - #Mi24 helicopters, #Su30, #Su35 aircraft. At first we were stationed in the #Chornobyl area, then we moved to another one. When they offered to go to study in ๐ฉ๐ช and learn new technology, Vadym agreed without thinking.
