1/ Blind faith in the dietary guidelines can literally kill you.
Research has found that 95% of the Dietary Guidelines of Americans advisory committee has conflicts of interest (COI) with food brands, including Kellogg’s, Dannon and General Mills.
Here’s how to protect yourself:
2/ These conflicts haven’t been disclosed to the public.
Now we know that 60% of documented COI is related to funding or board membership.
No wonder that 88% of Americans are metabolically unhealthy and heart disease is behind 25% of all US deaths.
3/ The single responsibility of the Dietary Guidelines of Americans committee is to provide unbiased, ethical #NutritionalAdvice.
It fails to do this.
Ditch the #FoodPyramid.
4/ As a cardiac surgeon, I follow these dietary rules to support my #MetabolicHealth.
🥑 Eating whole, real foods
🌾Avoiding refined grains
🥩Consuming animal protein
This isn't anything groundbreaking, but it does serve as an excellent guidepost moving forward.
8/ Conflicts of interest in the #FoodIndustry is old hat.
But as evidence sheds light on its continual failure, it's time we stopped following the advice of those with vested interests.
This includes looking to science rather than hearsay to make decisions about our diets.

Poor metabolic health has serious consequences on the heart. It may increase existing risks for stroke, increase pressure in veins and arteries, and prevent the body from managing energy effectively.
This is accomplished by:
•Controlling blood pressure, which may put unnecessary strain on the vessels and arteries.
•Managing weight, which may contribute to heart disease and its recurring factors.
•Reducing risks for diabetes, stroke, and heart attack.
Above all, metabolic health is key to promoting lifelong disease prevention. Restoring a healthy balance is key for limiting risk factors and putting you at the controls of your personal wellness.
1/ Ignoring your heart health isn’t just reckless — it may even kill you.
In the US, there's a 1 in 4 chance that your death will be caused by heart disease.
Regardless of your age, gender, or wellness, taking stock of your #CardiovascularHealth today may save your life tomorrow.
2/ Most of us are familiar with the late-stage signs of #HeartDisease: pain, shortness of breath, or an irregular heartbeat.
But the earliest signs of an unhealthy heart can be very subtle.
They’re often ignored or chalked up to other causes, especially in young people.
3/ Subtle signs of an unhealthy heart include:
🧠 Mental health concerns
🛏️ Disrupted sleep
⚕️ Metabolic syndrome
Thankfully, there are plenty of things you can do to mitigate your risks and improve your #HeartHealth — starting with small, intentional changes.
1/ America’s relationship with work is unhealthy and unsustainable.
We work long hours and report some of the highest levels of job stress in the world.
We spend more on #healthcare than any other nation, but our employees are sicker than those in other high-income nations.
