🧵 Least Populism State Doctrine 🧵

I've shared my idea with lawmakers in California and I shared it once here but I want to share it again. My tweet was about how we can get better representation in Congress.

Here's how my plan works.

#DemVoice1
Right now, a district's population for a congressional district is about 800k. The one person, one vote is not a realistic goal but having better representation should be. My plan would not mean amending the constitution.
Every 10 years when we go through redistricting we need to take the least populous state, in this case Wyoming, and use their state's population #s as to how many will be in a Congressional district.

Let's say Wyoming has 500k as a population. That 500k would represent how many
voters will be in each member's district. So, for every 1 million voters, 2 districts would be created. Under this scenario, and if my math is correct, California would increase their representation by 26 seats with a population of 38.95 million. The HoR would increase from
435 to 677 and when we include the Senators the electoral college now sits at 777. This isn't a perfect solution but the idea of better representation and a pretty simple way to do it is something this country should seriously consider. The numbers have not changed since 1910
The population in 1910 was 92 million, today it's 338 million. This will stop the incentives for gerrymandered districts. It may not be the perfect solution but it's something I think we can all agree on. We need more representation and we can only do that by increasing the house

THREAD

I read The Federalist a lot and of course, like with the Constitution there have been many interpretations and I want to share with you mine. I'm talking about Federalist 49 and 50 which discusses the amendment process to the Constitution.
In these two essays, arguments are being made against engaging us too often in the amendment process. In 49, Pluribus argues a convention should be held whenever one of the branches crosses or oversteps their constitutional mandates; whereas 50 argues against set or scheduled
conventions. They did not want the amendment process to be that open or easily threatened by the political discourse in society.

WHITE CHRISTIAN NATIONALISM PART II

I want to FF a few years and move into the 80s with this thread because this is where the movement really got its legs again.

The evangelicals and fundamentalist were frustrated with SCOTUS rulings as well as Carter not supporting the
pro-life cause. Their efforts to keep public schools segregated failed and when the IRS began investigating the tax status of these church/schools is when they became more active in politics. Up until this time Falwell believed that politics should not be in the pulpit.
This attitude changes however when he believed his exempt tax status would be rescinded. It was the election of Reagan in 1980 that became a watershed moment for their movement. They found a staunch anti-abortion POTUS who espoused many of the beliefs of the fundamentalist.

THREAD ON WHITE CHRISTIAN NATIONALISM

Make no mistake the white Christian nationalist movement is strong; both in their numbers and their $$. There are some disputes about when this movement first began. There are some who trace it back to the 70s but we can go as far back as
1942 when the first D.C lobbyist group the National Evangelical Association was formed. Their goal was to lobby the federal government for Christian-based moral legislation. These proposals included protecting evangelical broadcasting rights, restrictions on liquor and to limit
the Catholic influence on politics. It was during this time they changed from "fundamentalist" to the more uplifting "evangelical." Their views however were just as the fundamentalist were in the 1920s. They wanted to reclaim the country's Christian heritage and traditions.

The more I think about the leaked opinion I am becoming more convinced that a law clerk who once worked with Thomas was the culprit. Why do I claim this? There are a few.

First, Thomas is the senior most justice on SCOTUS. The reporting suggests that Roberts was not
in the majority which would leave Thomas to assign the opinion, instead Alito was chosen. Why would the most senior SCOTUS justice pass up the opinion of not only for it's historical significance, but would be THE opinion of his career? I can give you an idea.
The involvement of Ginni Thomas and her involvement on 1/6 is much more extensive than what the media is reporting. Groundswell is a committee that she founded along with Steve Bannon. Her work on the Eastman legal memo is the most under-reported story by the media. She also was
