The Labour Files: The Purge I Al Jazeera Investigations via @YouTube
My initial reaction when I started watching was: “well internecine nastiness like this on the left is not that unusual.”
But this documentary is going to far darker places than that - and it’s implications are far bigger.
@keirstarmer has a raging inferno to deal with here.
The dumpster fire representing the current state of the UK’s social democratic history, just exploded.
It is now obvious there are powerful dark forces at work within both the great houses of UK politics. And it’s not clear that either party has the capability to tackle them.
Is this the ultimate political fallout from a #brexit schism which split the nation cleanly apart?
"A house divided against itself cannot stand."
What if that’s several houses.
Completely different circumstances obviously, but this from Abraham Lincoln seems apposite.
On one side we have a new unelected Govt that’s setting fire 🔥 to all norms related to economic management to line the pockets of the super wealthy whilst imposing a crippling generational debt burden on the people.
Yes it’s United in this , but it’s inherently unstable.
On the other side we have an opposition which has been riven for years, and is now self-immolating itself, exactly when it’s opposition and coherence to address compounding crises is most important.
Meanwhile the scavengers are circling.
“I do not expect the Union to be dissolved - I do not expect the house to fall - but I do expect it will cease to be divided.
It will become all one thing, or all the other.”
- Abraham Lincoln

Here is the per-capita IMF SDR Data sorted in the order of lowest recipients of IMF credit. 193 nations receive allocations but as indicated in the earlier thread - the bulk of this goes to rich western nations.
At the other end of the scale are the nations with the highest IMF SDR credit-per-capita allocations. Luxembourg tops the list at $2004 per year per person, 800 x the allocation per Ethiopian.
The top four ranking nations are tax havens, and another four are in the top 10.
Here she TELLS THE WORLD a bunch of plain truths about the nature of the challenges it faces, and proposes a bunch of practical solutions to deliver Justice and Equity. via @YouTube
PM Mottley has been calling for some time (along with many others including UNSG @antonioguterres) for IMF reform to more fairly provide access to capital to nation states.
This sheet shows the current SDR drawings. And in the IMF votes are allocated on the same basis.
@antonioguterres [I think this is just money already borrowed BTW - there is 200 billion in funds not yet drawn down.]
70% of borrowing is allocated to the top 20 countries. The next 20 countries have received the next 15.5% of borrowing rights.
Ethiopian Deputy PM @DemekeHasen is delivering Ethiopia's address to the @UN General Assembly General Debate.
Followed by Russia. Sergey Lavrov can deliver a good speech. Unfortunately whilst his criticisms may be valid, they don't adaquately reflect the nature of the nation that he represents, which is essentially a kleptocracy.
I wonder if anyone will exercise a right of reply.
The problem for #KaariMurungi is that she is in a quasi judicial role here. And deleting her Twitter account looks like an admission of the existence of a conflict of interest.
And her prior tweets, those that have surfaced suggest she took on this quasi-judicial investigative role after having a clearly publicly expressed a position on the conflict. This should have been at the very least disclosed and addressed.
From what we know about the investigation it is clear that important public evidence and testimony about issues such as the use of child soldiers was consciously left out of the report.
Here’s a subtitled translated version of the @EthiopianNewsA interview with a former Tigrayan Journalist who is among the TPLF conscripts who have surrendered.
TPLF Is Shooting and Killing Retreating Fighters says Captured Journalist via @YouTube
It provides additional confirmation of the audio radio intercept evidence released in which a TPLF commander gives orders to shoot retreating TDF conscripts.
Forcible conscription is a war crime as is the use of child soldiers which has been a feature of TPLF’s strategy.
An explanation of these tweets from #KaariMurungi is now required. This is a small group of experts and if the Chair of this panel had strong partial views & went to the effort to hide those views, it further undermines the credibility of the #ICHREE.
The origins of the ICHREE are already extremely controversial. Specifically the role of TPLF lobbying inside the EU to set it up.
And the initial report which ignores the issue of child soldiers (among other flaws) is also controversial.
The latest meeting on the report suggests that the @UN_HRC itself is deeply split over the ICHREE, primarily on a Western Powers/Global South axis. Which is unfortunate - and risks further undermining the effectiveness of Future @UN_HRC inquiries.
