10 priceless startup lessons I learned from my mentors:
#1 The foundations and vision

The best startups know precisely what they want to achieve:

• Who they want to help
• The story they want to share
• The message they want to put out

It's easier said than done... But it's a process with constant improvement.
#2 Flexibility

When Amazon started, they were a bookstore.

When Netflix started, they were a DVD rental company.

👆 The best startups are flexible because the markets and people change.
#3 Company Culture

Every company is different.

The important part is knowing what your company culture should look like.

This helps you:

1. Set the tone
2. Hire the right employees
3. Improve communication.
#4 Don't try to do too much at once

You can achieve anything. But you can't do everything at once.

Many successful startups focus on small market and then expand afterward.
#5 Hiring

We all know hiring is one of the most important aspects of startups.

Tips I learned from my mentors to improve the hiring process:
#5a.)

1. Find employees that fit your company culture and energy

2. Look for employees with an initiative that are passionate or determined to work.

3. In the early stages, look for employees with secondary skills to help with flexibility.
#6. Unbiased hiring

There are many studies that show how hiring processes can be unintentionally biased.

Recognizing this gives us more opportunities to find top talent.
#7 The right balance

Startups have several departments:

• HR
• Product
• Marketing
• Support
• Finance

They are all equally important. Yes, some products need less marketing or vice versa, but it’s about finding a balance.
#8 Customer-first approach

At the end of the day, your startup is in the hands of your customers.

That's why I believe the best startups always think with the customer in mind first.
#9 Collaboration

The quickest way to grow and build a brand is by collaborating and partnering with similar brands.

✅ It builds trust
✅ It builds valuable relationships
✅ It exposes you to a bigger audience
#10 Support circle

Every startup runs into problems.

The best ones have a support circle that can help them fix problems quickly.

Build relationships with:

- Founders
- Influencers
- Subject Experts

"If fear is stopping you from reaching your goals, read this:"
1.) Be honest with yourself.

Identify the Fear that is stopping you.

What are you avoiding because of Fear?

Job interviews?

Public speaking?

Putting yourself out there and sharing your story?

What is it that you fear about it?
2.) Understand the emotion

Don't try to ignore it.

The emotion is there to tell you:

- What you need to prepare for
- The potential negative outcome.

Rather than trying to block it out, try to understand it.

My company hosts events regularly and organizing cost-effective and time-effective teams can be a challenge especially when we're hosting in a new city or trying to target a new audience.

Can you relate? Here's why we launched @assemble_now to solve this problem! 👇🏾
In June we hosted 5 events in 3 cities in ONE week! Up next is 8 IRL events over 2 months in #losangeles and #atlanta. As fun as this is, I wish we could throw events in Europe, LATAM, the Caribbean, etc. I wish we could branch out beyond our immediate audience into new cultures.
(3) Our vision is to build globally diverse communities that connect people all over the world to opportunities and education. But truly diverse community building is not straightforward, neither is it cheap. There are many logistical, cultural, and language barriers.
