This is a very important article by @DrChrisAllen re situation in Leicester re #Hindutva attacks there & reaction of authorities. I am very disturbed about what happened in my borough of #Brent last week. The reaction here has been quite similar. 🧵
Part 2 of long thread @WembleyMatters@Brent_Council@MAsgharButt@MPSBrent
As this article points out Muslims are deemed to blame for everything and guilt is automatically ascribed to us. So many presumptions are made based on #Islamophobic tropes & stereotypes. 🧵 continues
Part 3
Last weekend in my borough of Brent, a fake poster was circulated by foreign #Hindutva accounts on Twitter claiming (wrongly) that Muslims were planning an attack on a temple in Ealing Road, around where I live.
The local MP @BarryGardiner
Part 4 immediately sent out a tweet which I feel the wording was unfortunate and seemed to imply that the threat was real and that Muslims were behind it, without outrightly saying it but implication was there. The local @MPS sent out patrols outside temples and Ealing Rd mosque.
Part 5 And now Diwali and Navaratri events now have a police presence. There are pictures tweeted of police at these events by the MP & MPS. So the normal person assumes that it was a genuine threat by Muslims, adding to #Islamophobia.
Part 6 @BarryGardiner, the @MPS or @brent_council have not sent out a strong & clear message that the poster was fake and not sent by Muslims and there was no threat! I’m really disappointed and upset as a Brent person for over 60 years that this had not been clarified.
Part 7 We #Brent Muslims need this publicly clarified. We r largest faith group in #Brent yet we r always neglected & ill served by those who are supposed to serve EVERYONE in this borough. As #LabourFiles shows #Muslims & #Islamophobia are lowest in hierarchy of discriminations
