As usual, after each speech by the French president E. #Macron, some non-French-speaking self-proclaimed experts take it to Twitter to castigate Macron and #France based on usually poorly translated, cherry-picked samples.
This time is no different. A thread 🧶
I prepared this 1-sheet account of #Macron's statement on the possible use of nukes against #Russia in the context of the Russian #invasion of #Ukraine, from yesterday's interview on France 2 TV channel.
Please feel free to use it.
I will document below the most stupid reactions from those pseudo-experts who obtained their degrees from the university vending machine.
1. Sergej Sumlenny
Seemingly ignorant of international conventions, nuclear doctrines and legal frameworks to regulate the use of nukes.
Does not speak French, relies on English language newspapers. Newspaper headlines actually. Newspaper headline screenshots to be precise.
2. Ivana Stradner
Equally ignorant of UN conventions on nukes, nuclear doctrines or legal frameworks, which should no be a surprise for a fan of Donald Rumsfeld who couldn't care less himself.
Don't ask me how she could involve Australia in using nukes against Russia.
Does not speak French. Couldn't care less about checking sources or finding a reliable translation.
Is not afraid of forging quotes or distort sources to make them fit with her biases.
3. Paul Massaro
Paul is your typical 14-year old kid. At his age, he considers that his views are the only ones worth having.
His ideas usually hold in much less than 280 characters. Paul ignores what nuance and finesse might mean.
Like the previous shiny experts, Paul doesn't speak French. And since he doesn't get finesse and nuance either...
... but it is difficult to classify Paul as francophobic as he probably doesn't now what this word means, and also because, although he staunchly defends his ideas, he can also quickly change his mind...
Paul, like his friend Ivana, is not afraid of forging quotes to support his views.
What makes Paul so special is not only that he thinks like a teenager, he also acts like one.
How cute is that.
As a job, Paul is to "cover German-speaking Europe and East Asia"
But how the EU works, Paul doesn't really know. "Acquis communautaire" all all those little thingies, that's something French made up anyway.
To be honest, Paul doesn't understand the concepts of GDP and "most industrialised nations" either.
Anyway, G7 is something the French made up.
What Paul really appreciates is to meet with famous people and wear costumes.
Eventually, the one thing you'll never know about Paul (as he doesn't disclose it in his Twitter bio) is that Paul is an employee of the US State Dept.
And that explains so many things.
