I’ve been writing about my #perimenopause for a few years now. My essays have covered the physical as well as emotional and mental health impacts of this transition.
Last year I started regular:
- strength training (for my bones)
- stretching (for my joints)
- walk for an hour (for my heart and anxiety)
- dance (for my heart)

But this year, I've been less consistent because I started traveling for work again.
For the coming year, I want to graduate myself from at-home weights to working with a trainer to power lift.
It is consistently recommended for those of us going through menopause. So yalla!
In my 40s, I ran a lot and loved it: 3 to 4 miles a day, five times a week.
But as my body has changed as I make my way through this #menopause transition, the ways I want to work out have changed too.
Every day I try to move more and laugh more.
And invariably something aches: my elbow one day, a shoulder another, and my heart every day. I've been open about my #perimenopausal anxiety.
It's #MenopauseAwarenessDay on Oct. 18. I'm not a fan of days. I'm "aware" of my menopause every single day. I am nonetheless publishing a new essay on power (of all kinds), anxiety, and who is (and isn't) talking about #menopause. It's free to subscribe! feministgiant.com

"The case is just the latest example of a predominantly white police force refusing to take seriously reports of missing and murdered Black, Brown and Indigenous victims – especially women and girls."
It is telling that police are thought to be our protectors from rapists and predators when they do very little to protect us from rapists and predators. feministgiant.com/p/essay-fuck-t…
