1/ I took the banana out of the freezer, and my 6-year-old daughter
wrote this to me.
Can you read it?
2/ "Never ever took a banana from the freezer! It is for banana swirl".
This is her first year of school, and she did not attend preschool because of the COVID situation. She is left-handed and misspelled many words.
3/ I was concerned about it and asked her teacher during the open house. The teacher said: It is totally fine; I told them to listen with their ears and then spell with the letters. They will make mistakes, but that's how learning works. In 6 months, she will be perfectly fine
4/What amazes me is that kids learn things so fast. She already starts to correct my pronunciations :)
5/ I reflect on this. Yeah, if we do not allow people to make mistakes during the job, how can one learn things fast? If we do not create a safe psychological environment for people to make mistakes, how can one try new things and think about innovations? #Management#leadership
6/ there is so much to learn from elementary school education. Next time, I will talk about growth mindset!

1/ Most managers are lacking one key skill but it can be learned:🧵
2/ coaching. The definition of coaching is “unlocking a person’s potential to maximize their own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them.”
3/ When done right, coaching can also help with employee engagement; it is often more motivating to bring your expertise to a situation than to be told what to do.
1/ What is career development like in academia vs industry? From what I know 👇
2/ academia: PhD -->postdoc --> assistant professor --> associate professor --> chair of a department --> chair of a college -->?
3/ industry: PhD --> scientist --> senior scientist (other companies may have scientist I/II/III etc) ---> principal scientist --> associate director --> director -->senior D --> executive D (some do not have it) --> VP--> SVP --> c-level executive
