I've been talking with @danostrovsky and @rckprtr about how to grow the #IC, which inspired my poll yesterday.

Based on discussions, my current thesis is that focusing on bringing in more Web 2 users is likely the right move for the majority of #ICP companies.

To understand why expanding to Web 2 users is the right path forward, let's look at the technology adoption lifecycle.

New tech adoption starts at the left and moves to the right:
Innovators: 2.5%
Early Adopters: 13.5%
Early Majority: 34%
Late Majority: 34%
Laggards: 16%

There are about 50m users that own NFTs and about 300m users that own crypto currency worldwide.

If you take the percentage of people in the innovators group and multiply by internet users in the world (~4 billion) you get 100m, which means at 300m we are right at the "chasm"

The hardest point for the adoption of a technology is right at the chasm (meaning right now). You have to convince the early adopters and early majority to get onboard with a technology that makes intuitive sense to them and is extremely easy to use.

We're already seeing some of this with companies tackling specific use cases that make a lot of sense (luxury goods, ticketing, digital art, licensing rights, etc)

Many people are using Web 2 tech + Polygon for their tech stack, creating a Web 2.5 hybrid, but I think this is the wrong path forward. You lose composability, interoperability, security, and decentralization when you settle for Web 2.5 hybrids.

Making crypto & technology disappear and providing superior experiences will be the future.

Let's not talk about NFTs and wallets. Let's talk about owning digital assets.

Let's not talk about hardware wallets and seed phrases, let's talk about social recovery and biometrics.

I think the Internet Computer has the ability to fade into the background and enable superior experiences that are perfect for the early majority.

Let's create incredible user experiences.
Let's let users transact in dollars or USDC.
Let's remove all friction and make it easy.

So rather than integrate with the millions of people in crypto already (ETH, SOL, Polygon), let's integrate with the billions of people that haven't used it yet. Let's abstract away the complexity and use the tech to build amazing new features that users will love.

I'm still thinking through what all of this means for @EntrepotApp, @IdentityMaxis, @DSCVR1, @DistriktApp, @ORIGYNTech, @infinity_swap, etc, but I'm assuming this same path is where we will all want to go to expand our user base and grow the IC.

What do you think? Do you agree? Disagree? What arguments do you have for or against this idea? Does it apply to everyone on the #IC? Or are there circumstances where it doesn't apply?
