Thread: Why I recently shifted my Twitter approach after 8 years.

1. Raising awareness of #narcissism is vital for democracy.

2. Unless and until T****, his US enablers, and UK cohorts are held fully accountable, I'm way less interested in the daily political news cycle.
I am survivor of narcissistic abuse by more than one person. Learning about narcissistic personality disorder and related behaviors changed my life. I now feel confident I can protect myself from such people in future.

"The personal is political." -1970s activists.
Entire countries have fallen under the spell of leaders with NPD & other serious disorders.

IMO the view that Donald T*** and Boris Johnson show signs of such disorders is science-based & highly credible. In 2016 Bandy Lee MD sounded the alarm about T****. I didn't listen.
I believed certain lies in 2016 and continued to ignore contrary information until shortly after he had lost the 2020 presidential election. It was about mid December 2020 when I accepted the facts. Although I didn't clearly say so clearly on Twitter, until January.
My view was that seeking recounts and other lawful peaceful means of challenge prior to 1/6 was OK. One week prior, I tweeted my prediction of violence and urged people to avoid going into DC to "protest." The joint session process allows lawful dissent by elected officials.
I believed that the usual security posture for planned lawful demonstrations in DC would ensure that any sporadic breakouts of outdoor violence wd be swiftly contained.

It is now abundantly clear that T**** plants in LE & military agencies ensured no effective security posture.
And as far as I know, many such individuals remain in post. The net is closing in on them, though.

Several million voters still believe lies about their Dear Leader T**** and his enablers. Those enablers still dominate the Republican party. So...
The world is still in danger. The US is a country too powerful for other countries to ignore. As someone with a working moral compass, I care very much about innocent people being harmed, regardless of where they live. Even on self interest alone, we cannot ignore the US.
Midterms election day is rushing up before us. You have until November 8, 2022 to do your duty & vote in favor of American democracy. No Republican can be trusted in an elected position at any level of gov't. They are allowing a mass murdering psychopath to escape accountability.
You're not voting "for" Democrats, you're voting against the rampant lawlessness of today's Republicans: A group of people with outsized power and zero personal limits on what harms they will tolerate, since those harms accrue to other people.

That is immoral to it's core.
Most of the deaths and other pandemic harms in the US were avoidable.

The level of suffering caused by such corrupt, enabling Republicans will flow on for decades, even generations.

They lost the WH, Senate and House because of the deliberately unmanaged pandemic response.
They also ensured the 25 million people of Afghanistan would be abandoned to the Taliban, with whom the T**** admin negotiated, instead of with the government we all helped to develop there. 80 countries had helped in our coalition there, and lost our heroes too. Thanks a bunch.
And I will never stop supporting the 44 million Ukrainians so cavalierly sacrificed by Republicans even today, in favor of their political mass delusion concerning Russia. Evidence of genocide, torture, child abduction, & forced removal of Ukrainians into Russia continues daily.
On 1/6, Jim Jordan tried to treat Liz Cheney like a fragile female as they evacuated the chamber. Her response was epic.

"Get away from me! You fucking did this."

Millions of former Republican voters share the same sentiment and are now voting blue for as long as it takes.
If I were an American, I'd do the same.

The only way to protect ourselves from the mass effects of empowering narcissists and/or mentally disordered people, is to become better educated about the problem.

Protect ourselves and each other.
We can use our voting and other civil and political rights do to our part at the community, national, and international level. It takes a long time to get the toothpaste back into the tube, though.

I'd rather write about the NPDs in our personal lives. I can help with that.
Public figures who likely have NPD or something similar can provide useful examples as we learn about the subject.

They're everywhere, including among B grade former actresses who target vulnerable men and ruin their lives.

NPD can affect people of any political persuasion.
A willingness to question one's own assumptions about people we politically agree with is a sign of personal growth.

If I had done that in 2016, it would have saved me a whole world of pain.

Fool me once, it's on you. But fool me twice, it's on me.

Stay woke, friends.😉

I think the best thing the Tories could do right now is to bring back Theresa May, as a caregiver PM, and call a snap election.

Clement Attlee 2.0: It's time; for Keir Starmer to win that electoral mandate, and get the country recovering. Image
D'oh! Caretaker PM is the term I meant to use above, not caregiver PM, lol. See, I am informally a kind of caregiver for elderly family and I'd been reading about the subject when I happened to write the tweet. I don't even like the term. "Assistant" is more empowering...
The language we use for disability, impairment, and healthcare matters. I can (and do) tweet about it all the time.

But back to British and world politics.

#Brexit was a terrible idea. I see that now...

Thread: The mass murder trial of Lucy Letby, in the UK.

TW/CW: Violent content concerning child abuse.

I don't even want to read about it, but it's an unusual case and healthcare safety is a special interest of mine.

theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/o…
The approach to crime prevention, child abuse, and medico-legal issues varies a lot between countries. That's part of why I find it so interesting.

Letby is accused of murdering 7 neonatal ICU babies and the attempted murder of 15 others. There are aggravating factors, too.
She has pleaded not guilty, but handwritten notes were found by Police that appear to confess to the crimes.

Most people would be asking themselves *why* on earth a nurse would carry out a year-long serial killing spree such as this one.

Psychiatry will provide some answers.

Thread: What the hell is going on with UK PM (for now) Liz Truss?

In this video clip she seems sedated. That's... an interesting way to handle the extraordinary set of circumstances she and her government are in.

Also, I don't think I've ever heard a UK Chancellor of the Exchequer refer to a policy decision in the first person. It's normally "we," as in Cabinet collective responsibility and respect for the PM as the final arbiter of such decisions in the House of Commons. Most odd.
Truss sits there, slow-blinking and barely showing any emotion or even looking around. Compare her body language with that of Penny Mordaunt, on the other side of Chancellor Hunt. Mordaunt seems more natural and authentic as she listens and tries to look busy reading something.

Thread: The #HurricaneIan death toll and how to reduce the next hurricane death toll (USA)

👉Currently 44 officially reported deaths in FL, and 4 in NC.

👉As always, it will increase, over about two weeks.

👉Many such deaths are preventable.

Source: fdle.state.fl.us/News/2022/Sept…
Here is the official page to check for updates on the Hurricane Ian death toll in Florida:

fdle.state.fl.us/news/news

I'm going to list some of the most common ways to die in a hurricane.

But first I'm going to talk about the political culture in FL that worsens the problem.
And by the way, every major issue like hurricane harm reduction is already political and politicized. I'm not politicizing a tragedy. I'm giving y'all the honest truth about how to save more lives next time. I consider it my civic and ethical duty.

Thread: #HurricaneIan Day 2 in the US, my thoughts.

So I noticed a ton of damaged or destroyed boats either half-sunk at their moorings, or washed miles inland. As always happens. And it got me thinking... there are better options...

weather.com/storms/hurrica…
Boat owners and users had 4-5 days' notice that #Ian was likely to develop and landfall somewhere in FL. The forecast track became more certain over time, but even at 2 days out, the info was pretty solid. If it surprised you, then IMO you weren't listening properly to the data.
Not everyone would've had the option of doing this, but some did. It was possible to load up with lifesaving supplies and head out into the Caribbean to circle back behind the storm, boat intact, with the ability to assist many, many people in SW Florida.

J/s, it was possible.

Poor kid. IDK when how or why she allowed this, then decided it would be fun to share.

Every person who is a public figure has a duty to promote science based public health and safety messaging at all times but esp. during major disasters.

T****s fail this test repeatedly.
Granted, weather conditions at time and place of filming were not hazardous enough to warrant actually calling Child Protective Services but that's not the point.

To a person, they are clueless on how to behave with a working moral compass. They lack an ability to feel shame.
So it's a waste of time acting as if shaming them will work.

Equally, never give them the benefit of the doubt.

They are a gang of narcissists and enablers.
