And Namperumal Darshanam today! From the Chandana Mandapam. Once a year he spends the entire day with all the Azhwars and Acharyas! And after his Thirumanjanam and their Mariyadhai by sunset, returns to his Moolasthanam.
This is going to be a thread on one of the pioneers of the publishing industry in South India. Now mostly forgotten by everyone, he was a force to reckon with in the 19th century.
Sanskrit scholar, researcher and nationalist, Vidwan Shri T R Krishnacharya (1862 - 1945).
😀🙏
After the Maratha rule was established in the Thanjavur region, there was a big migration of several communities from Maharashtra and North Karnataka. From assisting in the local administration to spreading their own culture and traditions, many of them settled down there.
Several families of Pundits too migrated. The Tonape family belonged to the community of Deshastha Vaishnavas and followed the Dwaita Sampradayam of Sri Madhva. Their mother tongue was Marathi but they were equally fluent in Kannada and later Tamil. Sanskrit was always there.🙂🙏
Back in #Srirangam, today is the annual Jyeshta Abhishekam for Lord Ranganatha! Once a year, the Moola Sthanam gets a traditional purification in one of the most ancient methods. Will try to do a thread if possible!
Wish I could attend it personally!
Missing it! Sigh! 🙏😓
It is a day long affair! The process of which would have begun few weeks ago! First they prepare the Thailam. But more about that later. As for today, early morning the temple elephant goes to take a dip in the Kaveri, as usual. No Vishwaroopam darshanam today.
The Sthalathars, Sthanikars, Maniyakarars of the temple recieve a special Mariyadhai first. They carry special pots to the Kaveri. 28 silver pots and one gold pot. A long procession goes from the temple to the Amma Mandapam. With the Nagaswaram and Thavil Melam.
