CDC is closely monitoring the recent increase of Ebola Sudan virus cases in Uganda. At this time, there are no confirmed cases of #Ebola related to this outbreak reported in the United States. 🧵⬇️
As part of the U.S.’s efforts to address this outbreak with the international community, CDC & @USAID are working closely with local, national, and international partners to enhance the country’s preparedness and surveillance. @MinofHealthUG
In Uganda, CDC is:
☑️ Supporting @MinofHealthUG’s surveillance efforts to detect/treat #Ebola cases
☑️ Researching how the outbreak began & studying bats (believed to carry Ebola virus)
☑️ Assisting w/ epidemiologic investigation, case recognitions, laboratory capacity
CDC increased lab capacity to address #Ebola outbreak
🔬 Through the Laboratory Response Network, which has 22 testing locations
🔬 By supporting 4 Regional Emerging Special Pathogen Treatment Centers, where testing is available along w/ airport entry screening for passengers.
While there are no confirmed cases of #Ebola related to this outbreak reported in the US, a #PublicHealth threat anywhere is a public health threat everywhere.
As a precaution, 5 US airports now screen air travelers arriving in the US whose travel originated from Uganda.
CDC has updated healthcare providers proactively. On Oct. 6, CDC sent a Health Alert Network advisory to providers w/ CDC’s recs for #Ebola case identification & testing & clinical laboratory biosafety considerations. CDC also held a COCA call to share updates on the outbreak.
From past outbreaks, we know that early recognition of #Ebola is critical for infection control. While the current outbreak is an evolving situation, CDC remains dedicated to preventing future Ebola cases both domestically and abroad.
