Two of my biggest passions have been #poker and #trading. Trading was my first job since 2009. The less known fact - I played poker 500+ nights. There are many similarities between the two. Here is a thread about the parallels to help your trading and poker

A thread🧵
1. Keep folding cards. Do not play average cards for too much money. Card selection is everything. Especially true if you are a beginner.

Similarly, in trading, do not do many trades. Be selective. Trade only when you have a good trade idea with many strong reasons
2. Connected to point 1. Be patient. Wait for the right opportunity. Some of the world's best poker players play may be 3% of the cards they get. Some of the best trades I know trade may be 3 or 4 trades in a month. Look at 50 ideas, shortlist 10, and trade may be 2
3. Be aggressive when you get good cards. There is no point playing half hearted when you get good cards. Do not be afraid to make a big bet on a big cards, and to lose it all.

Playing many average cards with small bets is a losing strategy in the long run
4. Be observant. When you are not playing, observe what others do. Pay attention to the table. Learn as much as you can about your opponents even when you do not play.

In trading, even when you do not have trades, analyse, learn, and think of your next big idea
5. Stack size - that is how many chips you have matters. Players with a lot of chips can stay alive, take risks, lose some, and win big - like big accounts in trading.

Do not play poker without many chips. In trading, if you have small capital, think of growing it before trading
6. Think in terms of risk-reward. It is okay to risk 5000 rupees for a 30,000 reward. It is not okay to risk 1000 Rupees for 200. Most beginners think in terms of the absolute reward and not risk-reward.
7. Decide how much money to risk. I can play a 10k buyin event. May be 25k. At 1 L, my lower middle class upbringing might get me nervous:)

Trade with bet sizes you are comfortable with. If you are learning with a small account, stick to small trades that don't affect you
8. Finally, this stuff is addictive. Do not be obsessed with trading/ poker. I know many who live in Goa playing poker like Zombies. You do not want to be that.

Your primary purpose in life is to have beautiful experiences for you and loved ones. Always remember that.

The end

Asked a popular Finance influencer for a collab. He or she quoted 12L+GST for 1 Insta Reel + 1 Insta Story + 1 Youtube Short. Apparently other Fintech brands pay so much for collab.

I want to smoke the same thing they are all smoking
Whoa. This Tweet got more engagement than I expected. So I thought I will clarify a few things, and share a few learnings as a thread 🧵

1. The influencer we approached a personal finance person. He or she was not from the options space, and so did not have an options audience
2. For large markets like investing, finance, insurance etc, this number may make sense. But options is a small market, and IMHO, we may be better off getting good traders with verified P&L who people trust, rather than regular influencers

How to pretend to be a woman on Twitter? Many men have this question. I sympathise. They don’t know how to act like one. They come from environments without women - like engineering colleges. Most engineering students have not seen women except from 20 metres away.

In Kerala, lotteries are very popular. There is a particular lottery called Bhutan Bumper. The way it works is, if the last number of your lottery matches the lucky number, you get ten times the price of the lottery. So the payoff is ten times the bet.

A thread 🧵:
Gafoor, aka Gafoorkka is a lottery-buying expert. He has this gut feelz he gets when he sees the right number. His gut feelz is famous among his friends and family. So one day, he went to his friend Dasan and told him about his magic gut feelz. The scheme is this:
Dasan will put 10,000 rupees in Gafoorkka’s scheme. If the lottery ticket wins, they make 1 Lakh rupees. Dasan can share 20% of the profits, that is 20k to Gafoor for his expert services. If they lose, Dasan only loses 10k. (Gafoor loses nothing ;) )

Many option scammers complain that I only target trading related malpractices, and that I should stop targeting them alone.

Chalo bois, I am going to make your day today. Please retweet for maximum awareness: A thread about a new scam: 🧵
Step 1: An email comes with the CEO's name, but a different email ID. Most people see the name but not the email ID, making the scam easy. It reads: "I am busy right now, unable to use my phone or PC, are you free to do a small task"

Once the teammate replies comes step 2
The CEO asks for an urgent transfer to a "vendor". Please note that in the screenshot, the name is mine, but the email belongs to god knows whom.

My top 5 Most stressful trades in my 12-year trading career. A thread🧵:

5. My first trade, 2009. Boss gave me 10 Crores, asked me to do whatever I want. And left. Lost 1 L that day, thought I was getting fired. Boss came back and asked "Stoploss nahi daala naa?" with a smirk
4. My first big trade for a client, 2010. 137 Million Dollars. Hands were shaking. The only reassurance I got from my then boss was - "What is the worst that can happen?"
3. Prop trade, short dollar, 2011. Lost roughly 50L in 10 seconds. Thanks to RBI intervention, it came back in the next minute or so. I think I blacked out for a second or two.

A must-read thread for stock market peeps🧵:

I come from lower middle-class: Zero parental income, no house, etc. I understand how lower middle-class lives. Later on in life, I got lucky to see some of rich people and their lifestyle. I know the difference - very well (1/n)
Nowadays, I see my fellow lower-middle class people showing daily screenshots of crores, and their lifestyle to get our lower-mid friends to join trading classes etc. I understand you are doing this to get rich and escape class. I empathize. But... (2/n)
You are doing it wrong. You have no idea how rich people live. So pay attention to the rest of the thread. Take notes. And share it with your colleagues when TikTok holds creator get-togethers (3/n)

Disclaimer: I am not rich. These are observations. Do your own research
