And if we want better research, we can start with the research priorities of ***#ActuallyAutistic*** people, NOT allistic people.

#NothingAboutUsWithoutUs

1/
What are the autism research priorities of #ActuallyAutistic people?

This paper cites previous research asking this, & adds current results for autistic adults in Scotland.

#NothingAboutUsWithoutUs

2/
You will notice the VAST differences between what #ActuallyAutistic people want to see researched, & what non-autistic researchers want to see researched.

Autistic people want to see research that benefits *autistic* people's everyday lives.

#NothingAboutUsWithoutUs

3/
Research that supports denying #ActuallyAutistic people's right to exist is dangerous & eugenicist.

We have *literally* been there before, not once but many times.

Including during the Holocaust.

4/
In contrast, research in keeping w/#ActuallyAutistic people's autism research priorities SAVES LIVES.

Majority of funding for autism research is not in keeping w/these priorities.

ABSOLUTELY critical for this to change.

We've been programmed to perceive this. The good news is, we can unprogram ourselves.

I spent a while a few years back looking at pictures after pictures after more pictures of fat ppl in "fatkinis."

It TOTALLY changed my perceptions in wonderful, amazing, AWESOME ways.

Now that I say that, I'm reminded of an experience back in the late 80s, a few months after I came out. Hanging out with other queer ppl, in a space where two men... felt safe... to sit on the sofa together & hold hands.

2/
I tried really hard not to stare.

But... I'd never seen two men sitting on a sofa holding hands.

Not ever in my life before that.
I loved it.
It made me REALLY uncomfortable, too.

B/c of how I'd been taught to react.

@ Finattentive's whole thread.

More of my own response:

1/
I have been through ALL of this before, with the whole "I'm not lesbian/gay/bi, buuuut..." "Thing," especially in the 90s. I recognise it, you bet.

2/
Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.*

(*It was too small AND "unisex", to boot**.)
(**That was a 90s queer community joke.)

For a fucking qualified counsellor? Oh hellz no!
"Applicants will hold a BACP or UKCP accredited diploma or higher qualification in Counselling or Psychotherapy and have already completed a minimum of 300 clinical face to face supervised hours.

2/
"These positions will appeal to counsellors/therapists looking to accrue hours towards accreditation with BACP or UKCP whilst gaining experience in a University Student Counselling setting.
