Every region of Bharatavarsha is unique. What makes Karnataka unique in its own way?
+
1. In spite of having a very strong regional identity, Karnataka has never given room for a separatist, chauvinist, parochial movement.
Not that we dont have our share of such people. But we have successfully managed to keep them in the margins.
+
2. Karnataka is easily the most migrated-into state for a very long time. It has a history that goes back centuries in time.
But it has figured out a way of assimilating everybody into its culture, without obliterating others identities.
All this with minimum conflict.
+
3. Importantly, Karnataka managed one Civilizational achievement in the 20th CE without a parallel.
We shaped a Modernity which is in harmony with the Tradition & the natural flow of the Civilization.
Thanks to Mysore Kingdom & the relative freedom under the British.
+
4. An achievement that is in relation to point-2, but needs a special mention - Karnataka has retained the best access to the Tradition in an alive manner.
Our Kaviarajamarga, Pampa, Ranna, Janna, Harihara, Raghavanka, Kumaravyasa, Lakshmeesha are all alive even today.
+
5. We also bring the best of other states to Karnataka. Thus, we have Vivekananda, Paramahamsa, Tagore, Aurobindo our own & alive in Karnataka - even more than the parent states.
Continuous flow thought from all of Bharatavarsha into Karnataka at all times.
+
6. Alongside Kannada literature, we have the classical Sanskrit still alive.
We rever Vyasa and Valmeeki. They derive inspiration from Kalidasa, Bhasa, Baana, Maagha et. al. Sanskrit flows in Karnataka like Rta.
We have the best of Classical Sanskrit translated into Kannada.
+
7. We have innumerable number of songs singing the praise of Karnataka Maate. Many begin by offering obeisance to Bharata Maate.
Our Kannada Films continue to create songs in praise & pride of the state but without ever crossing boundaries set by the visionaries of Karnataka.
+
8. Among many states, Karnataka is one that uniquely identifies itself with Deviates.
We must continue invoke them during the Navaratri & Rajyotsava.
Devi Chamundi & Devi Bhuvaneshwari will ensure that we continue to hold other 7 achievements well into the future.
The State appreciates Artha & Kama only.
- Highly places its own Artha
- Not aware of its own Kama
- Places Artha-Kama of the Society as subservient to its own
- Does not recognize Moksha (Daiva)
- Appreciates Dharma only as Law & Order
We were one people much before the word Hindu became a descriptor. The Puranas & Mahabharata present this unimpeachable reality. Vishnupurana (VP) does this most beautifully & succinctly.
Vishnupurana is a major Purana consisting of 7000 verses. Modern Historians date it between 400BC to 900AD. Even if you average it out, it is pre-Gupta.
It has 6 Amshas (large Parts). The first 3 Chapters of 2nd Amsha - are illuminating. Our Concern here is the 3rd Ch.
On the eve of #GandhiJayanti , I am settling into my own assessment of his contribution and importance.
This thread is a reflection of my own assessment based on what I have read about Gandhi - through his own writings and others.
Will begin with Positives & then Negatives.
+
1. His understanding of the Indian past. Among the few who had no inferiority about the Tradition.
- Actively defended the Kula-Jati-Varna aspect of the Society
- Held the Indian Kings in great esteem.
- Understand the functional mechanics of the society, spoke its language
+
2. His understanding of Modernity and its evil dimension.
Hind Swaraj is the most scathing criticism of Modernity ever. May not contain complex abstract nouns, models, theories, hypothesis.
But represents fundamental issues of Modernity in a way all can understand.
