Good point, @SCOTUSBlog.

Supporters of the former guy who say his tax records should remain private are missing the point. The records show evidence of longstanding white collar crime, which exposes the fact they fell for a scam & enabled a Kremlin-compromised, violent traitor.
That's right. I called him a:

>longstanding white collar criminal
>scammer
>Kremlin-compromised
>violent
>traitor.

Each of those points is supported by a massive amount of credible evidence. One label would be enough, but he is all five.
As an empathic, educated person it was still possible for me to believe the lies, until it wasn't. The nature of the scamming, manipulation, gaslighting & brainwashing was & is such that many otherwise good people are still in it's thrall. That is heartbreaking to their families.
Also heartbreaking to families are the many violent and/or deadly incidents resulting from the current Republican party scam inflicted on the American public since 2015.

Literally millions of deaths so far, worldwide.

And the attempted murder of an 82 year old man last week.
When you join in with the dishonesty campaign about a wholly innocent victim of violent crime, you render yourself no better than the individual allegedly wielding the hammer into the bones of a man's skull, hands and arm.

What is wrong with you?
I was am relieved to hear Paul Pelosi's doctors say "he is expected to make a full recovery" but we all know that his life and those of his loved ones will never be the same.

I can't imagine the physical let alone mental trauma that has been inflicted on him and them.
#StochasticTerrorism is designed to intimidate political candidates, election officials, and the public as a whole.

The individual who is so concerned about concealing his tax records is the person who clearly incited his followers to carry out acts of violence then and now.
And just as culpable as the stochastic terrorist are the millions of enablers, esp. those closest to him professionally and personally. The more you enabled him, the greater your culpability.

A few have said #MeaCulpa, such as @MichaelCohen212. His conscience is now clear.
My conscience is clear, too. As a foreigner, I couldn't legally vote for the cult leader, but if I could have, I would have. I (wrongly) assumed that the obviously violent, fascist part of the movement was shunned and contained. Then it was personally ushered to the forefront.
In hindsight, I now see what others saw all along: That the openly fascist part of the Republican party finally seized control in 2016 and mass violence would follow. Those outside the cult always said 45 would have to be dragged kicking and screaming from the WH when he lost.
Yes, mass violence:

>Terrorist attacks (incl. against Pelosi)
>140 injured cops at the US Capitol, multiple LEO deaths
>Avoidable Covid-, Taliban- and Putin- related deaths
>Avoidable mental illness and suicides
>Avoidable climate change-related deaths

and many more.
The tax records of one failed, increasingly broke, real estate con artist pale into insignificance against the honest, factual body count of today's openly fascist Republican party.

The records will inevitably be made public. This is an administrative, temporary stay only.
The tax records will show what (the open-minded, informed) observers like me realized some time ago: That T**** had utilized inherited wealth and white male privilege for his entire life, to escape accountability for serious criminal offending and even get elected to high office.
Everyone who knew the facts of his long white collar crime career, his mob boss tactics, & his deeply held white supremacist, antisemitic, Islamophobic beliefs, knew that he was in every way unfit for office.

He managed to brainwash enough voters to yet again get away with it.
It's over now, and he knows it. The brainwashing of enough people, I mean.

The violence, fascism, and consequences borne by others, are most certainly not over.

Voting Democrat right down the ballot this year is obviously necessary, but not sufficient.
There is so much work to do, and not just in the US.

Far right AND center right governments are being voted out of office all over the place since the first phase of the pandemic. But it's like cancer surgery. Often you need radiation and chemo to stop it coming back.
If we don't do everything we can, wherever we are, to protect and nurture our democracies, we will lose them.

It's democracy v autocracy, as it has been since the great Age of Enlightenment. We got too comfortable after 1945. The threat of fascism will never go away.
Fascism can only be contained, not destroyed. Striving for a rule-of-law respecting country & world is the only effective way to achieve lasting peace, both internationally & domestically.

I'm excited about this fight & our future. Stay engaged, get involved. And, vote blue.

Thread: Why I recently shifted my Twitter approach after 8 years.

1. Raising awareness of #narcissism is vital for democracy.

2. Unless and until T****, his US enablers, and UK cohorts are held fully accountable, I'm way less interested in the daily political news cycle.
I am survivor of narcissistic abuse by more than one person. Learning about narcissistic personality disorder and related behaviors changed my life. I now feel confident I can protect myself from such people in future.

"The personal is political." -1970s activists.
Entire countries have fallen under the spell of leaders with NPD & other serious disorders.

IMO the view that Donald T*** and Boris Johnson show signs of such disorders is science-based & highly credible. In 2016 Bandy Lee MD sounded the alarm about T****. I didn't listen.

I think the best thing the Tories could do right now is to bring back Theresa May, as a caregiver PM, and call a snap election.

Clement Attlee 2.0: It's time; for Keir Starmer to win that electoral mandate, and get the country recovering. Image
D'oh! Caretaker PM is the term I meant to use above, not caregiver PM, lol. See, I am informally a kind of caregiver for elderly family and I'd been reading about the subject when I happened to write the tweet. I don't even like the term. "Assistant" is more empowering...
The language we use for disability, impairment, and healthcare matters. I can (and do) tweet about it all the time.

But back to British and world politics.

#Brexit was a terrible idea. I see that now...

Thread: The mass murder trial of Lucy Letby, in the UK.

TW/CW: Violent content concerning child abuse.

I don't even want to read about it, but it's an unusual case and healthcare safety is a special interest of mine.

theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/o…
The approach to crime prevention, child abuse, and medico-legal issues varies a lot between countries. That's part of why I find it so interesting.

Letby is accused of murdering 7 neonatal ICU babies and the attempted murder of 15 others. There are aggravating factors, too.
She has pleaded not guilty, but handwritten notes were found by Police that appear to confess to the crimes.

Most people would be asking themselves *why* on earth a nurse would carry out a year-long serial killing spree such as this one.

Psychiatry will provide some answers.

Thread: What the hell is going on with UK PM (for now) Liz Truss?

In this video clip she seems sedated. That's... an interesting way to handle the extraordinary set of circumstances she and her government are in.

Also, I don't think I've ever heard a UK Chancellor of the Exchequer refer to a policy decision in the first person. It's normally "we," as in Cabinet collective responsibility and respect for the PM as the final arbiter of such decisions in the House of Commons. Most odd.
Truss sits there, slow-blinking and barely showing any emotion or even looking around. Compare her body language with that of Penny Mordaunt, on the other side of Chancellor Hunt. Mordaunt seems more natural and authentic as she listens and tries to look busy reading something.

Thread: The #HurricaneIan death toll and how to reduce the next hurricane death toll (USA)

👉Currently 44 officially reported deaths in FL, and 4 in NC.

👉As always, it will increase, over about two weeks.

👉Many such deaths are preventable.

Source: fdle.state.fl.us/News/2022/Sept…
Here is the official page to check for updates on the Hurricane Ian death toll in Florida:

fdle.state.fl.us/news/news

I'm going to list some of the most common ways to die in a hurricane.

But first I'm going to talk about the political culture in FL that worsens the problem.
And by the way, every major issue like hurricane harm reduction is already political and politicized. I'm not politicizing a tragedy. I'm giving y'all the honest truth about how to save more lives next time. I consider it my civic and ethical duty.

Thread: #HurricaneIan Day 2 in the US, my thoughts.

So I noticed a ton of damaged or destroyed boats either half-sunk at their moorings, or washed miles inland. As always happens. And it got me thinking... there are better options...

weather.com/storms/hurrica…
Boat owners and users had 4-5 days' notice that #Ian was likely to develop and landfall somewhere in FL. The forecast track became more certain over time, but even at 2 days out, the info was pretty solid. If it surprised you, then IMO you weren't listening properly to the data.
Not everyone would've had the option of doing this, but some did. It was possible to load up with lifesaving supplies and head out into the Caribbean to circle back behind the storm, boat intact, with the ability to assist many, many people in SW Florida.

J/s, it was possible.
