Latest: at least 12 locations in #HarrisCounty#Houston are out of paper needed to print ballots. Some have been waiting for hours for paper & turning voters away. #Election2022
I really did not think a tweet thread would be necessary today, but...
One person has died after being electrocuted, but not many details available yet:
The Houston Chronicle reporting: "A city of Houston employee was pronounced dead at 12:28 p.m. near the polling place at Melrose Park Community Center, according to Martee Black, a Houston Fire Department spokesman."
Working on a list of locations- one is Hamilton Middle School in Cypress. Northwest portion of the county.
From earlier- multiple locations experienced malfunctioning equipment, some were not able to open until several hours after scheduled time (7 a.m.).
ICYMI from last month: Harris County's 2020 elections is undergoing an audit, and will be audited again after this #Election2022
Just a little history: After the March 2020 Primary problems, elected District Clerk Diane Trautman (D) resigned. Commissioners appointed former Texas Dem Party Vice Chair Chris Hollins to replace her for the rest of the year...
Some of Hollins' plans were blocked by courts, such as sending out mail ballots or mail ballot applications to all. Hollins shut down the extra-legal drive thru voting centers after a federal judge indicated legal issues. thetexan.news/harris-county-…
The Democratic majority on Commissioners Court then voted to take elections responsibilities away from the elected Clerk and Voter Registrar and create a new Elections Administrator.
There were procedural errors, but the office was created and the first EA appointed was a former #Houston City Council candidate Isabel Longoria. thetexan.news/harris-county-…
The county experienced multiple issues under Longoria's tenure and made national news for this one: thetexan.news/harris-county-…
Longoria resigned and the county appointed Clifford Tatum to replace her- he only took over a few months ago.
While the Democrat majority on commissioners court has sought legal ways to block audits, Tatum has been more cooperative than his predecessor, but last week Dem Commissioners Ellis & Garcia asked for DOJ monitoring. thetexan.news/state-election…
Update on the electrocution death- not inside the polling site, but site had to be closed. abc13.com/north-houston-…
Here’s the locations that ran out of paper, but I’m told there’s more now.
TRO is requesting keeping 10 polling locations open for another hour...
Proposed order
Harris County assistant attorney Jonathon Fombonne is disputing that 20 locations are out of paper ballots, says paper ballots are being delivered.
Judge grants TRO
Paper ballots have been delivered to locations- all should be operating. A judge has ordered countywide polling sites to remain open until 8 pm but those who get in line after 7 will vote a provisional ballot.

“
While every soft-on-crime judge didn’t lose, we made inroads, helping to defeat some Democrat judges.”
Interestingly, there were a few GOP challengers who appear to have won: Tami Pierce has 50.06% over DaSean Jones for the 180th criminal district court.
Kristin Guiney holds 50.21% over Gemayel Haynes for the 183rd, and GOP candidates hold leads in county criminal courts 2, 3, and 14.
Happening now: Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo to deliver speech at HC Democratic Party HQ after narrowly winning 2nd term. #Houston#HarrisCounty#Texas#Election2022
Notes that the plaintiff (Texas Organizing Project) is basing TRO request on only 12 of the 782 polling locations in the county setting up challenge for whole county's election.

The 15-page letter w/docs was sent Tuesday, but someone leaked it to a reporter who then posted 2 pages and misled the public about its full contents. That person instead focused on the Texas Secretary of State sending the inspectors to Harris County, but...
