Good morning from the #WeMatter state. Where do things stand in Nevada?
About 840,000 votes are counted, including ballots cast in person on Election Day, which heavily favor GOP. Rs are leading at the top of the ticket. But there are tens of thousands of uncounted mail ballots.
Mail ballots we are likely waiting on:
- tens of thousands in Clark
- potentially more than 20k in Washoe (including more than 18k received on Election Day)
- a smattering of thousands across the rurals
These ballots have been mailed in or dropped off in ballot boxes, including on Election Day.
With such a high volume of those ballots, officials in Clark and Washoe counties announced delays to counting them beyond last night.
Given recent voting patterns, and what results so far have shown, these yet-to-be-counted mail ballots also likely favor Democrats.
Now, the numbers, here's a rough look at statewide margins with 840k ballots counted:
- Laxalt +2.7 over CCM
- Lombardo +4.7 over Sisolak
- Anthony +6.9 over Cano Burkhead
- Marchant +1.1 over Aguilar
- Fiore +1.2 over Conine
- Ford +4.4 over Chattah
- Matthews +7.1 over Spiegel
Here are the margins in terms of vote totals:
- Laxalt over CCM by 22.6k votes
- Lombardo over Sisolak by 39.7k
- Anthony over Cano Burkhead by 57.4k
- Marchant over Aguilar by 9.3k
- Fiore over Conine by 9.5k
- Ford over Chattah by 35.2k
- Matthews over Spiegel by 58.6k
Couple takeaway from these margins:
- Dem AG Ford is in a stronger position than probably any other statewide candidate (remaining mail ballots likely favor Dems)
- On the GOP side, LG candidate Anthony and controller candidate Matthews are faring better than their ticket mates
Here's a look at where the House races stand.
Again, outstanding mail ballots are likely Dem-leaning, and Democratic incumbents carry slim leads across the board. The District 2 race has also already been called for Republican Rep. Mark Amodei.
Here's a look at where the ballot questions stand.
Q1 and Q2 appear a little more solid, while support for Q3 is just +3 (almost 25,000 votes) over opposition.

Nevada election results update: Clark County has published an update, with about 12.3k ballots tabulated and reported in this batch.
I’ll have some updated numbers for the top-of-ticket races posted here soon.
In a new batch of 12.3k mail votes counted in Clark County, here are the #nvsen results:
- Cortez Masto received 7.5k votes (60.7 percent)
- Laxalt received 4.2k votes (34.1 percent)
This drops Laxalt’s statewide lead from nearly 17k to less than 14k, closer to 13.5k.
In that batch of 12.3k mail votes counted in Clark County, here are the #nvgov results:
- Sisolak received 7.2k votes (58 percent)
- Lombardo received 4.4k votes (35 percent)
This drops Lombardo’s statewide lead from 35.4k to 32.6k.
Update on Washoe uncounted mail ballots: Through Nov. 9, the county has received 102.5k mail ballots, of which 60.8k have been tabulated and reported.
That is about 40k uncounted ballots, but not all will yield results. Of those, we should expect results from 20k in coming days.
County officials tell me that 20k number includes the mail ballots with no issues that should be tabulated in standard process.
Additional ballots may need to go through one of several processes because of possible issues with the signature or spoiled ballots.
That includes the signature curing and the adjudication processes. We do not know exactly how many of those ballots will ultimately yield votes. For example, a ballot in need of signature curing may never be cured.
Good morning from the #WeMatter state, where I am surviving off of Dunkin coffee and support from my reporting sidekick Piper.
Here’s a quick rundown thread of where things stand in Nevada roughly 36 hours after the close of polls.
With about 887k votes counted statewide so far, Republican candidates at the very top of the ticket are leading, but there are results from more than 110k mail ballots still to be reported.
In the Senate race, Laxalt (R) leads Cortez Masto (D) by 15.8k votes.
In the governor’s race, Lombardo (R) leads Sisolak (D) by 34.1k votes.
I’ll post some more details on the state of play in other major NV races later this morning.
Following mail ballot counts reported in the afternoon & evening today (20k in Washoe, 14k in Clark, 7k in Lyon, 3k in Nye, 1k in Douglas), Nevada Democrats made some gains in reducing Republican statewide leads built through a strong advantage in Election Day turnout.
In the Senate race, Laxalt's reported lead over Cortez Masto dropped from 23k to below 16k.
In the governor's race, Lombardo's reported lead over Sisolak dropped from 40k to about 34k.
Washoe County — an urban swing county where Nevada’s top races remain tight — has published updated election results, with about 20,000 ballots counted in this batch.
I’ll have some updated numbers for the top-of-ticket races posted here soon.
In a new batch of 20.7k mail votes counted in Washoe County, here are the #nvsen results:
- Cortez Masto received 12.6k votes (61 percent)
- Laxalt received 7.4k votes (36 percent)
This drops Laxalt’s statewide lead from more than 21k to less than 16k.
In that batch of nearly 21k mail votes counted in Washoe County, here are the #nvgov results:
- Sisolak received 12.2k (59 percent)
- Lombardo received 7.6k votes (37 percent)
This drops Lombardo’s statewide lead from nearly 39k to a little more than 34k.
Quick update thread for tonight for all you NV results watchers: The counties with uncounted ballots (primarily urban Clark and Washoe where most votes are from) will keep on processing mail and counting ballots through the coming days.
Remember, in Nevada, any mail ballots postmarked by Election Day can be counted as long as they are received by Saturday, Nov. 12.
Clark and Washoe counties also have thousands of mail ballots from Election Day drop boxes for which results have not yet been reported. These counties are dealing with a very large volume of mail, and that takes time to process.
