THREAD: #Election2022 recap

The key takeaway is clear:

GOP pro-life candidates WIN in competitive races if they define their opponents as abortion extremists who support abortion on demand with NO limits... 1/
...and contrast that with a clearly defined pro-life position centered around consensus such as pain-capable or heartbeat limits.

This must be the key takeaway for the GOP as we head into the 2024 presidential cycle, especially those eyeing a run for the White House. 2/
Candidates in competitive races who did this effectively and either won or have a strong shot at winning include @marcorubio, @TedBuddNC, @JDVance1, @HerschelWalker, @RonDeSantisFL, @GregAbbott_TX, @BrianKempGA , @MikeDeWine & @KariLake 3/
It’s especially worth highlighting -- as @marcthiessen did on Fox News last night -- the governors who signed ambitious pro-life legislation into law and never flinched politically, despite running in competitive states: 4/
There’s no doubt that the Dobbs decision was a political earthquake – creating a unique opportunity for Democrats to motivate their depressed base and giving them the best opportunity they’ll ever have to use the issue politically. 5/
Dems took the opportunity and ran with it, spending $391M on abortion-focused TV ads alone during the general election, versus just $11M on the GOP side, a 35:1 spending ratio.

Yet for those candidates who went on offense, the astonishing amount of money did not prevail. 6/
We also see examples of GOP candidates who were not prepared and took the ostrich strategy: burying their heads in the sand and running from the issue, allowing their opponents to define them.

A good example of this is Dr. Oz in Pennsylvania. 7/
This losing ostrich strategy was largely pushed by inside-the-beltway consultants who urged candidates to totally ignore abortion and hope it went away.

Given the Dobbs earthquake – that everyone knew for months was coming – the ostrich strategy was political malpractice. 8/
Heading into the 2024 presidential cycle, we have a clear message for GOP presidential hopefuls: Go on offense to expose Biden and the Dems as the true extremists who don’t support ANY limits on abortion... 9/
...and contrast this with a strong GOP pro-life agenda centered on national minimum protections for the unborn child and mothers either at the point in which they feel pain or when their heartbeat can be detected. 10/
GOP primary candidates may have different views on what is achievable. We welcome that debate -- and even more so in the general election setting. 11/11

Congratulations on your victory @RonJohnsonWI!

Ron will continue to stand with pro-life Wisconsinites for common sense & popular pro-life measures #WISen #LifeWins22 1/
Senator Johnson went on offense, defining Mandela Barnes as an abortion extremist:

"The most extreme position here would be no limits on abortion whatsoever — allowing abortion right until the moment of birth, which is what [Barnes] supports." 2/
Together with our partner org, Women Speak Out PAC, we fought hard to elect @RonJohnsonWI.

Congratulations @TedBuddNC!

Ted Budd has been an ardent defender of life in the House, defending the rights of unborn babies and advocating for the safety & security of their mothers. We look forward to seeing him continue his good work in the Senate! #NCSen #LifeWins22
1/7
Budd stood firmly for life:

“I’ve always been pro-life. Cheri Beasley supports abortion at any time, for any reason, all the way until the moment of birth – and at taxpayer expense. That's wildly out of step with where North Carolinians are.”

2/7
Senator-elect @TedBuddNC has been a leader for life as an initial cosponsor of @LindseyGrahamSC’s 15-week abortion limit. We look forward to continuing working with him to advance this popular, commonsense legislation in the Senate.

Congratulations on your victory tonight @JDVance1!

J.D. Vance is a courageous and thoughtful pro-life advocate and we look forward to working with him to protect LIFE in the U.S. Senate! #OHSen #LifeWins22 1/ Image
“You're the extremist on this issue.”

J.D. Vance clearly demonstrated the contrast between his own common sense pro-life position that most Ohioans support, with Tim Ryan’s record of flip-flopping and out-of touch abortion extremism: 2/
Ohio chose commonsense policy over abortion extremism:

My grandmother was an old school Democrat who believed abortion should be safe, legal & rare. But that's not Ryan's view. He voted for a bill to allow abortion at 40 weeks for any reason.

Congratulations @Stitt4Gov!

Gov. Stitt is leading the charge to strengthen Oklahoma’s support network for babies and moms – ensuring that there are always life-affirming alternatives to the violence of abortion, and we’re proud to work with him! #OKGov #LifeWins22

Gov. Stitt went on offense, laying out his own bold pro-mom, pro-baby position while also calling out his opponent for her and her party's abortion extremism that most Oklahomans find offensive

2/4
Gov. Stitt also pledged to sign every pro-life bill that reached his desk – and followed through. Oklahoma’s strong pro-life protections, signed into law by Gov. Stitt, could save as many as 3,800 lives a year.

@BrianKempGA shares his commitment to both mom and baby: he worked to get Medicaid benefits to moms for up to a year following the birth of a child

Gov. DeSantis is right: we are all better when everyone counts, and this is a winning message and issue for pro-life Republicans nationwide. 2/
At the #FLGov debate @RonDeSantisFL called out his opponent Charlie Crist for his atrocious "NO" vote on the bill to require medical care for newborn babies who survive an abortion attempt on their life: 3/
