Tonight’s #FridayLimericks are still looking for that red wave. #LimerickRhyme
Though republicans roared from the sea,
Seems their red wave just wasn’t to be.
As their bellowing thins,
Now the blame game begins—
And the former guy’s allies all flee. washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/…
Junior promised a “bloodbath” was here—
So then why did that guy disappear?
The momentum all froze
While Don “powdered his nose,”
With no chance for his usual sneer. newsweek.com/donald-trump-j…
The historical trends would suggest
We’d be stanching the bleeding at best.
But with sanity purged,
Too much MAGA emerged—
And did worse than the pundits had guessed. fivethirtyeight.com/features/why-t…
With democracy fully at stake,
The repubs put up flake after flake.
But as whackadoos fall,
We hear sanity’s call
And electorates starting to wake. apnews.com/article/2022-m…
Republicans took a big swing,
But ideas just aren’t their thing.
It’s just hatred and lies
And the folks they despise—
And a guy they still think is their king. washingtonpost.com/business/repub…
As the jester-king watches the news,
Seems these aren’t the results he would choose.
As he screams and he cries,
And the ketchup bowl flies,
He’s just giving his party the blues. rollingstone.com/politics/polit…
Though I’m feeling relief for this year,
Our democracy’s not in the clear.
We must stay in the fight
To ensure that what’s right
Can endure before dropping our fear. rochester.edu/newscenter/202…
So the world breathes a sigh of relief,
But the respite here needs to be brief.
We’re still under the gun
With much work to be done,
And to many aligned with a thief. newyorker.com/news/daily-com…

I get reveling in all the far-right whining and infighting and turning in each other. I’ve enjoyed some popcorn over it too. But lest we get too excited, keep in mind that the main complaint they have is that he’s not an effective enough autocrat. #ResistanceUnited #LiveBlue2022
Their pushing an incompetent former president under the bus is fun, but most are aiming to replace him with someone they feel will be nearly as much a blow hard, but also a more effective bully. This embarrassment is far from the end of this version of the GOP.
Several of these lickspittle fools are already endorsing Trump for 2024. Others are just looking for a different bulldozer. And meanwhile, Peter Thiel, the Kochs, and other dark money ghouls are figuring out which anti-democratic corporate stooge should get their financial push.
So my concern with this kind of post isn’t the condescension of “educate yourself,” nor the absurdity of believing a widely discredited “documentary” from a lazy partisan felony hack over all the evidence that the election was free and fair.
My concern is more that pseudo-intellectuals like @DineshDSouza give cover to folks like Paul here to participate in the undoing of democracy. Whether Paul is an intentional dissembler or an unwitting fool is really irrelevant.
We live in a world where if you want to find “evidence” for any position in the world, you can do so. And if a Paul is too busy selling real estate or too lazy or incompetent to vet obviously partisan sources of disinformation, he just shares blatant lies out to the world.
More than at any other time in my life, 2022 is an election for the long term. Republicans have promised obstruction and retribution if they gain majorities, and we have seen enough in recent years to know they are not bluffing. (Thread) #ResistanceUnited #LiveBlue2022
Disappointed by the Dobbs opinion? So am I. But a Republican senate will never confirm a Biden SC nominee; it will get worse, not better.
Upset that we haven’t seen accountability for the Trump White House RICO conspiracy? Guess what happens to every congressional investigation if Democrats lose control? They get replaced by the Gym Jordan Snitches Get Stitches Committee.
Some people are on the fence on their midterm votes because, while the loss of women’s, workers’, and LGBTQ rights kind of stinks, they are more worried about prices. If that is you, have you heard any actual plan the GOP has to remedy this? #ResistanceUnited #LiveBlue2022
It’s easy enough to yell “Prices! Economy! Very bad things!” But the GOP answer to your economic pain is to let companies do what they want (other than support diversity), cut Social Security and Medicare, and cut taxes for the rich. None of this helps you.
Americans face different battles, different struggles, different challenges. That’s part of why our democracy exists, part of why we depend on it. Democrats want your voice to be heard; republicans want dark money and gerrymandering to ensure their richest donors carry the day.
Democracy is hard. For it to work, candidates have to present their ideas to an often skeptical public. People who disagree have to find a way to work toward the common good. Today’s GOP comes with no ideas, no working together, no honest reckoning with voters. (Thread)
Most of the media is conditioned to be a conduit for dialectic: to push conflicting ideas together as part of the process of choosing. But today, we don’t have that, and we need to stop pretending. One party wants democracy to work, and one does not.
I am voting blue down the line: not because any candidate is perfect, not because I agree with every individual position, but because I am not ready to give up on our American system of government. That makes democrats our only viable option.
Republican talking points are all about attacks, rather than about ideas designed to improve American lives. There is a reason for this: across the board, Democrats’ policies work better for you. (Thread) #ResistanceUnited #LiveBlue2022
The most obvious area of this is human rights. If you or someone you know and love is a woman, a minority, or LGBTQ, Democrats want to protect your rights. Republicans want to use you in culture wars designed to distract from their policy deficiencies.
But there’s more. For all the GOP talk about how the economy is more important than citizens’ rights, democratic policies work better for the economy too.
