🧵When you hear #TransRightsAreHumanRights, this #TransAwarenessWeek (or any other time), what we mean is many of us don't have the same rights and opportunities as cis folks.

I don't expect to live a long life, but I'm more angry I will be misgendered on my death cos of restrictions in the state I live in/was born in/work in. Self-ID matters and not just in binary genders. Do you know what could change with self-ID? Report back.

Trans people are old, young, Indigenous, settler etc. What we share is we're not the gender we were assigned at birth. Some cis folks can't bear this, they need to control our lives & bodies. Cos of this, smaller meaningful changes are blocked, like self-ID.

In some jurisdictions (like where I live) Self-ID is needed because the current laws suggest that gender can only be changed from one binary gender to another in the first place, and in order to do that invasive and costly surgical intervention is required.

While we're on the subject of costly surgical (and medical) interventions and support, any idea what it costs? Go ahead, find out. And the costs that Google will give you are conservative. What's covered by medicare?
