Gotta laugh, my tweet generated the following reply from a maga account:

"Ukraine flag in bio"

Ad hominem/genetic fallacy is all they have. They deflect by targeting the player not the ball. Because playing the ball is too hard for them. It requires honesty & courage.

🇺🇦
I recognize this form of gaslighting because I learned it from others and even used it, during my time* in Cult 45. (* Ended TWO years ago, OK?)

Any sign that someone is outside the cult is used as a way to disregard whatever the person says.

I proudly attach 🇺🇦 to my a/c...
And I will keep the Ukraini flag on my account for as long as it takes. Full independence, with pre 2014 borders, nothing less will do.

Cult 45ers viscerally hate Ukraine and Ukrainians.

They have to, in order to protect the scaffold of lies they have been fed.
I love Ukraine and Ukrainians. Slava Ukraini.

They are giving their lives every day to the cause of freedom, democracy, and (their AND our) security.

Some are being tortured, before ending up in literal mass graves. That's called genocide.
On every single issue that a Cult 45er could throw at me, I have the facts (or am quickly able to ascertain them.)

Usually I ignore or laugh at them anyway. Not because mass death is funny of course. Just that if we don't laugh, we'd cry.

We have working moral compasses.
I used to spend a lot of time on Twitter, following and writing about politics, esp. that of the US and UK.

Like so many others, I am exhausted. And I don't trust Elon Musk's company to be here much longer anyway.

But I will push back, on days when I can be bothered to.
I think Joe Biden is a truly great POTUS. I'd love it if he campaigned for re-election. But he deserves to enjoy retirement, having already helped literally save American democracy, under his watch at least. And I look forward to the next two Biden years.

#DealWithIt,❄️s. 😁

Thread: Mass shooting in a Walmart store, Chesapeake, VA

Here is the latest at 4am Eastern. At 8am Eastern, local police will hold a media briefing.

Yet another shooting. There are some relatively easy ways to prevent most of them...

I'm talking about changing the way domestic violence incidents are handled, and doing more to put long term distance between known DV offenders and their legal access to guns.

An idea best espoused by the outstanding @BeauTFC. Link to follow.

Thread: The future of Twitter

I wonder what price between $8 billion and $44 billion Elon Howard Hughes Musk might consider to sell this vital pro-democracy communications hub before he completely destroys it.

I mean, that's his goal, right?
He paid waaaay too much for it. Value currently estimated at $8 billion. Surely there are billionaires out there with the ability to build a consortium to entice it out of his grubby little hands?

There's a good argument for the US federal government buying it, too...
Or a group of countries. It's not all about the US, you know.

What does the Putin regime have on Musk, that could get him to over-spend so much money? The global fascist movement is the only winner out of this. Or was it the Mercers?

Good point, @SCOTUSBlog.

Supporters of the former guy who say his tax records should remain private are missing the point. The records show evidence of longstanding white collar crime, which exposes the fact they fell for a scam & enabled a Kremlin-compromised, violent traitor.
That's right. I called him a:

>longstanding white collar criminal
>scammer
>Kremlin-compromised
>violent
>traitor.

Each of those points is supported by a massive amount of credible evidence. One label would be enough, but he is all five.
As an empathic, educated person it was still possible for me to believe the lies, until it wasn't. The nature of the scamming, manipulation, gaslighting & brainwashing was & is such that many otherwise good people are still in it's thrall. That is heartbreaking to their families.

Thread: Why I recently shifted my Twitter approach after 8 years.

1. Raising awareness of #narcissism is vital for democracy.

2. Unless and until T****, his US enablers, and UK cohorts are held fully accountable, I'm way less interested in the daily political news cycle.
I am survivor of narcissistic abuse by more than one person. Learning about narcissistic personality disorder and related behaviors changed my life. I now feel confident I can protect myself from such people in future.

"The personal is political." -1970s activists.
Entire countries have fallen under the spell of leaders with NPD & other serious disorders.

IMO the view that Donald T*** and Boris Johnson show signs of such disorders is science-based & highly credible. In 2016 Bandy Lee MD sounded the alarm about T****. I didn't listen.

I think the best thing the Tories could do right now is to bring back Theresa May, as a caregiver PM, and call a snap election.

Clement Attlee 2.0: It's time; for Keir Starmer to win that electoral mandate, and get the country recovering. Image
D'oh! Caretaker PM is the term I meant to use above, not caregiver PM, lol. See, I am informally a kind of caregiver for elderly family and I'd been reading about the subject when I happened to write the tweet. I don't even like the term. "Assistant" is more empowering...
The language we use for disability, impairment, and healthcare matters. I can (and do) tweet about it all the time.

But back to British and world politics.

#Brexit was a terrible idea. I see that now...

Thread: The mass murder trial of Lucy Letby, in the UK.

TW/CW: Violent content concerning child abuse.

I don't even want to read about it, but it's an unusual case and healthcare safety is a special interest of mine.

theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/o…
The approach to crime prevention, child abuse, and medico-legal issues varies a lot between countries. That's part of why I find it so interesting.

Letby is accused of murdering 7 neonatal ICU babies and the attempted murder of 15 others. There are aggravating factors, too.
She has pleaded not guilty, but handwritten notes were found by Police that appear to confess to the crimes.

Most people would be asking themselves *why* on earth a nurse would carry out a year-long serial killing spree such as this one.

Psychiatry will provide some answers.
